Surrendered to “I” Co, 19th RCT. During interrogation was in good physical condition. Cooperative and of average intelligence. Information considered fairly reliable. Recommended for further interrogation.
a. Chronology:
Working as a portable 2-way radio operator at Regt1 Hq. 1 Mar 51 transferred to 6th Co as telephone 2-way radio operator. 2 Mar 51 arrived on Hill 153 6th Co CP had dug in. 071000 Mar 6th Co under heavy attack and 2d Bn notified. 2d Bn issued orders to hold Hill 153 at all cost. 071100 Mar another call received from 2d Bn to retreat rather than be captured. 6th Co CO ordered his men to retreat. By this time majority of his men already disorganized. Decided to surrender rather than retreat therefore remained behind when 6th Co retreated. PW picked up by elements of “I” Co, 19th RCT.
b. Disposition:
6th Co located on Hill 153 CS 630527, 4th Co on Hill 270 CS 629545, 5th Co located 1 km W of 6th Co and 2 km SW of 4th Co (presumably Hill 159 CS 613531) 7 Mar 51. 7 Mar 51 2d Bn located 1 km W of 4th Co (presumably Hill 218 CS 618544), 337th Regt CP located on mountain 1 1/2 km N of 2d Bn CP (presumably Hill 298 CS 614552). 3d Bn was 5 km E of 2d Bn and 1st Bn in reserve with the Regt CP. 335th Regt dug in W (exact location u/k) of 337th Regt. 338th Regt in reserve at present, with 113th Div CP.
