a. Chronology:
Joined the CNA in Aug 41, captured by the CCF in Feb 49, and assigned to present unit at PEIPING, CHINA.
19 Oct 50, the 375th Regt marched across a wooden bridge, over the YALU River, into MANP’OJIN, KOREA from CHIAN, MANCHURIA. Unit marched southward passing TONGCHANG (BV6420) o/a 20 Nov 50, and TOKCHON on the same day. 1 Jan 51, regt engaged UN Forces 16 Km south of the 38th parallel and made further advances to the south, arriving at an unk place o/a 13 Feb 51. At this area, they fought for days, however, having sustained heavy casualties, PW Bn withdrew approx 20 Km in an unk direction arriving at a village (believed to be at CS871537) 16 Feb 51. 19 Feb 51, his Co departed and arrived at a small hill (believed to be CS859557), where they stayed for 2 days, until forced by heavy UN artillery to move to a new position on Hill 297 (CS859843) 21 Feb 51. 230200 Feb 51, PW deserted his Co and surrendered to the 3d Bn, 5th Cav 230730 Feb 51 at (CS843545).
b. Organization and Strength (Present):
42d Army composed of 124th, 125th and 126th Div.
125th Div composed of 373d, 374th and 375th Regt.
375th Regt composed of 3 Rifle Bn.
3d Bn composed of 3 Rifle Co and HMG Co; Bn strength approx 300 men as of 23 Feb 51.
7th Co composed of 3 Rifle Plat and 60mm Mortar Plat. Company strength, as of 23 Feb 51, was 80 men.
1st Plat of 18 men composed of 3 Rifle Sqd.
c. Deployment of PW Own Unit:
Co CP was on the crest of Hill 297 (CS859843) while the Co was deployed on the hill facing the main road approx 11/2 Km N of the hill. Other companies were located in the vic of hill 297.
d. Deployment of Other Units:
Heard that the 38th, 40th, 41st, and 42d Armies were in KOREA. Heard from his political leader in late Dec 50, that 3 armies of the 3d Field Army entered KOREA in mid Dec 50.

There were 2 x 82mm mortars and 3 HMG remaining in his Bn.
New ammo supplies were received at a village located at (CS871537) 16 Feb 51, upon arrival, including 1,500 rounds per LMG.
f. Status of Food and Clothing:
Food was foraged daily from villages. Sometimes they received flour and pork from CHINA.
No new clothing received since entering KOREA.
They hauled about 6,000 bags of unprocessed rice from an unk RR station to a place called YONGDURI.
g. Mission and Intentions:
Heard Co political leader state the mission of the regt was to defend the area in vic of Hill 297 until reinforcements arrived, and that they were to withdraw to the NE should the present position become untenable. They were on the withdrawal at this time because they were unable to halt the power drive of the UN forces.
They failed in the phase attack because they were attacked by UN forces while preparing for an offensive.

i. Physical Condition of Troops:
There were no epidemic or sickness in his Co, however, almost all of the men suffered to a certain degree from lack of food.
j. Replacement:
Former Co CO and 2 sqd ldr went to CHINA o/a 14 Jan 51 to obtain replacements, however, he did not know what became of them. Heard that 2 mechanized units were expected to come to KOREA.
Their political leader told them that Russian troops were expected to come to their aid.
k. Psychological Warfare:
22 Feb 51, surrender leaflets were dropped in PW Co area. Majority of the men in his company read these leaflets, and believed in them because 60 percent of the men in his Co were former CNA troops who realized that it is safe to surrender to the US troops from their previous acquaintance with them.
