PW #404 was suffering from a cold at time of interrogation. A farmer prior to entering NKA. Captured with 4 other soldiers when they were left behind by their plat because they were ill. Average intelligence and cooperative. Information is considered fairly reliable. Recommended for further interrogation.
PW #403 was in good physical condition. A student prior to entering NKA; captured together with PW #404 and 3 other soldiers. Average intelligence and cooperative. Information is considered fairly reliable. Recommended for further interrogation.
a. Unit Organization, Strength, and Equipment:
VI NK Corps had 18th Div, 19th Div, and an unknown Div.
19th Div had 35th, 36th, and 37th Inf Regt.
37th Inf Regt had 3 Rifle Bn (1st, 2d, 3d), SMG Co, Engr Co, Recon Plat, Medical Co and a Communications Plat.
2d Bn had 3 Rifle Co (4th, 5th, 6th), Mortar Co, HMG Co, Arty Sect, AT Plat, Communications Plat, Medical Plat and a Supply Plat.
6th Co had 3 Rifle Plat and an HMG Plat.
19th Div was organized at TUNGHWA, MANCHURIA 3 Nov 50. 75% of the personnel were recruits.
PW had knowledge of the following code name:

Approx 2/3 of casualties were caused by frostbite and frozen feet. Since 19th Div was never committed in action there were no KIA. The decrease in the strength was also due to deserters.

b. Unit Assignment and Intention:
3d Plat was ordered by Regt Hq to apprehend all the SK Security Police in vicinity of SADANGA■ (vic ONJONGMYON BS6195).
c. Disposition:
37th Regt CP was located approx 12 km N of NAMCHONJOM (BT7245) 23 Feb 51. PW observed 35th & 36th Regt approx 4 km S of SUAN (BT7186) 23 Feb 51.
d. Communications:
There were 2 field telephones in 2d Bn but due to lack of telephone wires they were not being utilized. Runners were being used. PW did not observe any vehicles.

f. Morale:
Morale of PW unit was low because of lack of food and clothing, over-exhaustion and untrained troops. The men were in poor physical condition because of over-exhaustion.
g. Chronology:
PW #403 was conscripted into NKA at HAMHUNG (CV7519) 22 Jul 50 and assigned to 507th Independent Regt. Received approx 15 days of Inf basic training at HAMHUNG. 10 Aug 50, 507th Ind Regt departed HAMHUNG by train and arrived KILCHU (EA2833) 15 Aug 50 where 507th completed its basic training. 15 Sep 50, 1st Bn, 507th Ind Regt departed KILCHU by train and arrived TANCHON (DV9278) 16 Sep 50. Remained until 25th Oct 50, performing guard duties. 25 Oct 50, departed TANCHON and arrived HYESANJIN (DA3183) 30 Oct 50. Continued to march and arrived PUNGSAN (DA2918) 1 Nov 50. PW was slightly wounded at PUNGSAN and was evacuated to KYONGWON (慶源) arriving 25 Nov 50. 2 Dec 50, PW and 400 other slightly wounded soldiers departed KYONGWON by train and arrived KUNGCHULING (公主領) 5 Dec 50. They were then confined at a CCF hospital.
Upon recovering, assigned to his present unit at TUNGHWA, MANCHURIA, 5 Jan 51. Received approx 1 month of Inf training. 2 Feb 51, 19th Div departed TUNGHWA by foot and arrived NAMCHONJOM (BT7245) 23 Feb 51, via CHOSAN (YF3624), YONGBYONG (CS6749), KAECHON (YD5596), SUNCHON (YD5367), SINGYE (BT8564) and KUMCHON (BT8227). 19th Div less 37th Regt remained approx 40 km N of NAMCHONJOM while 37th Regt continued to NAMCHONJOM. Regt rested there three days. 26 Feb 51, 37th Regt departed NAMCHONJOM by foot and arrived vic ONJYON MYON (BS6395) 28 Feb 51.
28 Feb 51, PW Plat received orders from Regt CP to proceed to SADANGAM, vic ONJYON MYON, to apprehend all South Korean Security Police in vicinity. Evening 28 Feb 51, while at SADANGAM, they were shelled by UN artillery. The Plat withdrew, leaving PW and 4 others behind because they could not travel due to illness. Captured by agents of 1st ROK Div 1 Mar 51, and turned over to Div Hq 6 Mar 51.
h. Medical:
PW did not receive any immunizations. The most prevalent sickness in unit was common cold. Drinking water was obtained from wells and not purified.
i. Food and Ammo Supplies:
Food was procured locally and was insufficient. The men were fed once or twice per day depending on amount of food obtained. The original issue of 100 rd of ammo per rifleman was never replenished. Each man received one set of winter clothing in Oct 50.
j. Replacements:
No replacements were received by unit. The training center for the NKA in MANCHURIA is at TUNGHWA. When PW unit left TUNGHWA, there were no NKA or CCF troops taking training.
k. Psychological Warfare:
PW did not see any UN leaflets or hear any aerial broadcasts.
l. Foreign Advisors, Technicians and Troops:
Two Russian officers inspected 19th Div at TUNGHWA 28 Jan 51.
m. Epidemics:
Observed five houses at SADAN GAM posted with signs reading “Typhoid Keep Out”. PW did not know whether or not medical treatment was available.
PW were previously interrogated by 1st ROK Div.
