Voluntarily surrendered to elements of 3d Bn, 21st RCT. Being treated at 24th Clearing Co for wound received on left cheek. Cooperative but of below average intelligence. Information should be assessed accordingly. Not recommended for further interrogation.
a. Chronology:
22 Feb 51, 337th and 338th Regt withdrew across HAN River and set up defensive position on Hill 1157. 337th Regt occupied western slope. 338th Regt occupied eastern slope. 3d Bn of 337th Regt dug in on top of Hill 1157. 2d Bn dug in 2 km W of 3d Bn on western slope. 1st Bn dug in 1 1/2 km N of 2d Bn. 337th Regt CP located at KUKSU-RI CS 714614 but heard Regt CP had withdrawn to new position 7 Mar 51. 28 Feb 51 to 6 Mar 51 Hill 1157 under heavy arty and aerial bombardment. Casualties from bombardment high. HMG Co lost 40 men (KIA) and PW believes other Co suffered same or more casualties. 061400 Mar 51 hit by fragments on left cheek and was unconscious for few hours. When PW regained consciousness he was alone on mountain. Climbed down mountain and surrendered to personnel on a truck passing by. During period on mountain no ammo received at all. Food was procured by 2 men from each squad who got 2 days food for his squad from villagers.
