2. ASSESSMENT:
Captured by “B” Co, 19th RCT. In good physical condition at time of interrogation. Appeared to be of average intelligence and cooperative. Information considered fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW joined CNA Jan 48 and was assigned to the 101st CNA. 101st CNA surrendered to CCF Jan 49 at PEKING CHINA. Held rank of Sqd Leader.
Assigned to Engr Bn, 48th Army in Mar 49. Remained with unit until Jun or Jul 49, then transferred to 8th Engr Regt, 3d Bn. Did not receive Engr training at any time. 8th Engr Regt attached to the Engr Hq (code name “PALU BU” (86 Unit)). Engr Hq has 8 regt, 1st to 8th inclusive.
8th Engr Regt crossed YALU River early Jan 51 by train and at SINUIJU 3d Bn, 8th Engr Regt proceeded S on foot.
Enroute S, via TONGJU, SUKCHON, P’YONGYANG, WHANGJU, SARIWON, NAMCHON, PYONGJAN, KANPO, KUMCHON, NYONCHON to KORANPORI, S KOREA, primary mission of 3d Bn was repairing roads and building detours along side of damaged bridges rather than to repair bridges. At KORAPO-RI 3d Bn repaired a newly built wooden bridge constructed across the IMJIN River by Engr Bn, 39th Army. First time 3d Bn attempted to repair a bridge. 3d Bn remained at this location for 10 days, then arrived 4 km N of SEOUL 22 Feb 51. After resting for 2 days, 3d Bn arrived at location 28 km E of SEOUL 26 Feb 51. At this location 9th Co received orders to proceed to 337th Regt positions. 9th Co dug foxholes for 2d Bn, 337th Regt for 3 days. Also dug foxholes for 3d Bn, 337th Regt which was located E of 2d Bn for 3 days. PW Co ordered to dig trenches on hills 2 km N of place of capture CS 665596. 9th Co dug approx 70 foxholes midway on hill. 081400 Mar 51 9th Engr Co received orders to relieve 8th Rifle Co, 3d Bn, 337th Regt which was heavily hit. When 9th Engr Co arrived at 8th Co positions UN forces had already taken the hill. PW Co received heavy fire and fled in all directions. Observed 10 men of 8th Co withdrawing when enroute to position. Believes the 8th Engr Regt first Regt from the Engr Hq to enter KOREA. Believes 3d and 4th Engr Regt entered KOREA.

8th Engr Regt is composed of 3 Bn. Each Bn is composed of 3 Co.

9th Engr Co: 6 LMG with 300 rd ammo ea. S/A ammo supply exhausted 8 Mar 51. Did not observe heavy weapons at Bn Hq.

e. Equipments:
Bn equipped with only tools such as picks, shovels, etc. No machinery of any type.
When digging foxholes for 3d Bn, 337th Regt observed 1 HMG, 1 x 60mm Mortar. Heard 3d Bn equipped with 81mm mortars. Also heard an Arty Btry attached to 337th Regt.

f. UN PW:
Saw 2 US PW 071600 Mar 51. 1 PW killed by air strike. PW observed in valley where 9th Co dug foxholes.
