2. ASSESSMENT:
PW were in good physical condition. All three were farmers prior to entering NKA. Captured while sleeping in foxholes night of 1 Mar 51. Average intelligence and cooperative. Information is considered fairly reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Unit Organization, Strength and Equipment:
47th Div had 3 Inf Regt (1st, 2d, 4th) and 1 Arty Regt (3d).
1st Regt had three Inf Bn (1st, 2d, 3d), SMG Co, Communication Co, Supply Unit, Engr Co, and a Medical Unit.
2d Bn had 3 Rifle Co (4th, 5th, 6th), a Mortar Co, AT Plat, Medical Plat, Supply Unit, HMG Plat, Communication Plat and an Arty Section.
6th Co had 3 Rifle Plat (1st, 2d, 3d) and HMG Plat.
4 Feb 51, 4th Inf Regt, 47th Div was redesignated as 1st Inf Regt, 47th Div. When 4th Inf Regt was redesignated as 1st Inf Regt, no additional personnel were assigned. Personnel of 1st Regt occasionally use their old designation (4th Regt).

b. Unit Assignment and Intention:
PW Co was assigned to defend area CS220531.

c. Disposition:
6th Co CP was in an air raid shelter at foot of a hill (CS220540) 1 Mar 51. 4th and 5th Co of 2d Bn were located approx 11/2 km E of 6th Co CP 1 Mar 51. The 1st Bn was approx 1 km W of CS220540 1 Mar 51. The 3d Bn was approx 2 km W of CS220540 1 Mar 51. A defensive line was established approx 300 meters S of CS220540. This line was approx 1 km in length and ran along a RR line. 23 Feb 51, observed one 45mm Gun and one HMG at 2 km E of CS220540. 1 Mar 51, observed 2 HMG approx 200 meters NE of CS220540. A barbed wire entanglement was observed approx 350 meters S of CS220540, covering an area of approx 1 km.

d. Communications:
Telephones were used by Co and higher echelons. Telephone wires were made of copper and were laid on the ground.

LIM, Hae (림해), Lt Col, CO, 1st Regt, 47th Div
HWANG, Sun Bok (황순부), Lt, CO, 6th Co, 2d Bn, 1st Regt

f. Morale:
Morale of PW unit was low due to fear of air strikes, lack of food, insufficient clothing. Majority of men in their unit were anti-communists. The men were in fair physical condition.

g. Chronology:
KIM, Chang Joo was conscripted into NKA, at SINUIJU, 4 Sep 50. He received two months of Inf basic training and upon completion of training assigned to his present unit. 5 Nov 50, 2d Bn departed on foot and arrived PAKCHON (YE2200) 15 Nov 50, where they were attached to 17th NK Div for approx 10 days. 25 Nov 50, 2d Bn rejoined 47th Div at SAKCHU (XE7372). 47th Div then commenced advanced combat training for 10 days. 6 Dec 50, 47th Div departed SAKCHU and arrived INCH’ON (BS9050) 8 Jan 51, via SEOUL.
Div remained at INCH’ON for one month, regrouping. 4 Feb 51, Div departed INCH’ON and arrived SEOUL area. Prior to departing INCH’ON PW was informed his Regt (4th Inf Regt) was re-designated as 1st Inf Regt. After arriving SEOUL area 47th Div was concentrated in vic of CS220531. PW Co established defensive positions in vic CS220540 and PW dug in vic CS220531. 1 Mar 51, while PW was sleeping in his foxhole he was captured by elements of “K” Co, 15th RCT.
KIM, Joon Bin was conscripted into NKA at SUNCHON (YD5367) 22 Sep 50, and was immediately sent to SAMHWA (YC0298) arriving 20 Oct 50. At SAMHWA, PW was assigned to a regt doing odd jobs. Nov 50, PW was sent to SAKCHU (XE7372) and was assigned to his present unit. From this period on the chronology is the same as above.
JO, Yon Hwan was conscripted into NKA at HAEJU (YC3813) 11 Sep 50. Received approx two months of basic training. 15 Nov 50, assigned to his present unit. From this period on, the chronology is the same as that of KIM, Chang Joo, above.

h. Medical:
PW unit did not receive any immunizations. Drinking water was obtained from wells and not purified.

i. Food and Ammo Supplies:
Their unit did not procure food locally, but received an occasional supply from the rear. Food was insufficient. No additional supply of ammo received recently and at present each rifleman has approx 150 rd remaining. Each man in PW unit had only one set of clothing.

j. Replacements:
PW unit did not receive any replacements. All wounded personnel are sent to a hospital in SEOUL and upon recovering every effort is made to return them to their original units. In the event their original units cannot be located they are reassigned to nearest NK unit. PW heard from their Co Comdr 1 CCF Corps and 1 NK Corps will arrive SEOUL area to reinforce them Feb or Mar 51. Also that when these two Corps arrive they will start an all out offensive and until then they are to remain on defensive.

k. Psychological Warfare:
PW observed UN leaflets on several occasions and had intentions of surrendering but did not have the opportunity to desert their unit.

l. Road Blocks, and Mine Fields:
Heard from an Engr Plat Ldr that mines were laid in area approx 500 meters S of CS220540. Mines were laid 10 meters apart.

m. Night Bombing:
PW unit was subjected to two night bombing attacks on 23d Feb and 24th Feb 51 with negative results.
