FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - No Number) 30 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: PAK, Suk Hi (Female) 22
UNIT: 6th Div ROKA
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 1400 hrs 29 Jan 51 at PANGOK (DS1133)

2. ASSESSMENT:
Evaluation: Cooperative and answered freely, however, not quite sure of place names and location. Information considered reliable.
Recommended for further interrogation.

3. CIRCUMSTANCE OF CAPTURE:
After being released by 7th NK Div 27 Jan, was picked up by 9th inf Regt Patrol vic PANGOK Sta (DS1133) 28 Jan 51.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
18 Nov 50 source captured by 7th NK Patrol at CHUNCHON taken to II Corps NK at HWACHON, 31 Nov 50 after being released by this Unit, was captured again by the 6th NK Div, 8 km E of KUMAN-RI.
25 Dec 50, 6th Div Hqs arrived at YONDU-RI (DS175510) where the 7th Div Hqs also was established. Source was taken to 7th Div Hqs. The 6th & 7th NK Div Hqs were housed in approx 30 scattered huts. During daytime only the sentinels are near the huts while all the officers and troops hid in air-raid shelters scattered throughout the area usually under trees and on hill sides. Both the 6th & 7th Div CO are Sr Colonels. The high grounds around this Hqs had outposts connected by telephone. PW heard officers saying that they are to remain in this location for 60 days and during this period received arty and tanks that are now in HWACHON. The Regt of these two Div are dispersed in this general area.
27 Jan 51 source and 3 ROK PW were released and told to go home. They headed south until they came on the HAANHUNG-HOENGSANG road. Headed toward HAANHUNG then down along river road S at DS2439 to DS240365. From here headed up stream and on mountain trail toward east. All along this route, source observed many troops in concealment. On mountain trail (vic DS1940) one lone house where old man and women lived were 4 NK soldiers operating a radio. (2 walkie-talkies with antenna in near of shack). Also 5 short antenna were on crest of hill on each side of trail vic DS194390. Radio shack belonged to the 7th Div. Field wire ran from it toward east and west. They followed wire west and came to a vacant village except for one sentinel. The village was PAUSIL (DS1239) where the 3rd Bn of 1st Regt, 7th Div was stationed. After dark the 3rd Bn (500) came down from the mountain. The Bn CO (Maj) walked down but 5 officers (2-Capt, 2-Sr Lt, 1-u/k rank) rode on horses. Source talked to the Bn CO stating reason for being released by 7th Div Hqs.
28 Jan the three ROK PW were given orders by the Bn C0 to go to WONJU area and report back enemy troop dispositions. During the night 27 Jan 51, 60 CCF troops case into this village. Observed 5 bugles, 3 HMG, all armed with PPSH SMG and each soldier had approx 10 hand grenades around the waist. CCF leader talked with the Bn CO in Chinese, as this Bn CO came from MANCHURIA. Source does not know purpose of visit. Bn CO had a field phone in his room.
Source left PAULSIL morning of 28 Jan 51 and picked up by 9th Inf Patrol.
While at 7th Div Hqs heard that the UN troops are as far north as HOENGSONG and that they were going to cut this force off by sending a Regt to WONJU.

5. GENERAL INFORMATION
Everyone wore mixed winter uniform of ROK and NK.
Food obtained from villages.
Morale rather high because they think they will win the war.
When source was at YONGDU-RI, med officers told soldiers and village people to be cautious of contagious disease in this YONGDU -RI area.
Source observed 5 NK soldiers with typhoid fever. Heard no shots were given to troops due to lack of medical supplies.
Water is purified by boiling whenever used for drinking. They are punished if they drink water without permission. Reprimanded by having them stand outside for two days in their underwears.
All the ROK PW were given an opportunity to either Join the NK Units or be released to go back to their units to be rearmed and then at first opportunity to give themselves up so that the arms and ammo can be used by the NK units. Also to bring back information of the enemy. These ROKA PW were treated very well.
Source saw 8 women with babies on their back and three men in civilian clothing being sent out from 7th Div Hqs. They were to join refugee to report back troop disposition from CHECHON and CHUNGJU area.
These people were sent out a few days before she left this unit 27 Jan 51.
