ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 3233 8 February 1951
FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - 0086) 28 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: PARK, Yong Gun (28) Pvt ASN 0105735 ROKA
UNIT: 2nd Div, 31st Regt, 3rd Bn, 10th Co, 2nd Plat, 1st Sqd (ROKA)
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 27 Jan 51 at Check point (DS133115)

2. ASSESSMENT:
Evaluation: Source was cooperative and information received seems to be reliable.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. CIRCUMSTANCE OF CAPTURE:
Source was captured by CCF troops twice but escaped both times and while he was headed south to join his former unit, he was picked up by UN Forces. Captured at CHIAM-NI (CT7804) 1 Jan 51 there again on 12 Jan 51 at KAGYON-JA (apporox 32 Km NW of HONGCHON DS0272). Altogether, about 300 RCK troops and 100 civilians were captured by CCF troops at CHIAM-NI.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
CCF troop captured source at KAGYON-JYA 12 Jan 51 was 372nd Bn. Source heard this from a Korean guide working for the Chinese who in turn heard it from a Korean-Chinese interpreter. The source said this unit went to TAEGOK-RI (20 Km NW of HONGCHONG) and was joined there by another CCF Bn. Source said that the 372nd Bn consisted of about 150 men and he heard that this Bn was going to YONGDU (approx 12 miles NE of YOJU) on 22 Jan 51.
The following weapons were observed in the unit:
1 50mm mortar (20 rd); 2 sub-machine guns 1 magazine ea; 5 M-1 rifles 48 rd ea; 3 US carbines l-15 rd magazine ea; 2 Russian rifles 30 rd ea and 2 or more hand grenades per man. Source also observed on field phone similar to those used by US troops.
23 Jan 51 source observed about 100 Chinese soldiers at YONGDU, resting in the village.

5. MEDICAL:
CCF troops all wore winter uniforms. They were not effected by the cold and no one suffered from frost-bite. They ate only 2 meals a day but found it to be sufficient. Morale seemed to be high with confidence that they would win the war.
Source went to SAMDONG (CS98502) 25 Jan 51 and as he was looking for a home to stay in, a village man told him to go to another town because the village had typhus. 15 civilians were in the village and 3 were ill and 1 died from the disease.
Source did not hear of typhus spreading among the NKA and the CCF.
