Evaluation: PW seems to be cooperative but was not very intelligent and information received is not too reliable.
Not recommended for further interrogation.
While engaged in a fire fight with UN Forces, PW hid himself because he was afraid and wad later captured.
There 7th Ind Regt was activated o/a 15 Dec 50 at SOUJI-RI (N of CHUNCHON). The Regt consisted of the 1st and 2nd Bn with 100 men assigned to each Bn. 50% of the men were NK and 50% were SK. Although they had a Regt CO, there was no Regt Hq.
The Regt was to avoid contact with the UN Forces as much as possible and go to TAEJON where they were to induct more men into the unit and build it up to full Regt strength. The weapons would be issued to the new men at TAEJON.
The 1st Bn was caught in a fire fight as they were planning to encircle the UN Forces to avoid contact near YOJU. The men scattered and PW does not know the present whereabouts of the 2 Bn. The 1st Bn suffered 30 casualties (KIA). 2nd Bn was approx 1 Km to the rear of 1st Bn.
1st Bn had 1 mortar (size u/k); 10 PPsh, SMG 1 magazine of ammo ea; 10 US Cerbines 1-15 rd magazine ea; 13 M-1 rifles 30 rd ea; 20 Russian rifles 30 rd ea. Also 13 men without rifles carried 2 hand grenades each.
No one was issued winter clothing except the Regt and Bn CO who wore American winter uniforms. Officers wore no rank insignia but could be identified by their long hair.
Food found in villages was sufficient except for times when unit had to stay in the hills.
Morale seemed to be fairly high.
