FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - 0087) 28 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: LEE, Te Hwa (26)
RANK: Pvt

UNIT: 3rd Div (684), 3rd Regt, 2nd Bn, 1st Co, 2nd Plat, 2nd Sqd
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 9th Inf sector 16 Jan 51.

2. ASSESSMENT:
Evaluation: Answered questions willingly and it seems to be reliable, but his knowledge of dates and strength is limited, due to his poor memory.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology
31st Div consisting of 3,000 men from UIJONGBU, approx 16 km N of SEOUL arrived 38th parallel (KANGDONG-DO) o/a 18 Dec 50 and fought against en for 3 days. They advanced to a hill called MUMYON KOCHI, approx 4 km S of 38th parallel, but PW separated from his unit before arriving this location o/a 25 Dec 50, because of his leg. He was resting in one of the houses in a village, approx 8 km N of MUMYON KOCHI. O/a 27 Dec 50 observed 31st Div withdrawing toward N, after fighting with enemy. Followed his unit to PYONGGANG, near 38th parallel, but they were attacked by approx 10 US airplanes and scattered. Relieves that half of the unit strength was destroyed by this attack. O/a 30 Dec 50 escaped without knowing which direction he was going and arrived at a village in South KOREA o/a 13 Jan 51, but he was picked up by US 9th Inf Regt o/a 16 Jan 51 and kept with this unit for approx 10 days.

2nd Bn CO: Major KIM, Ki O (25) trained in Chinese Red Army in MANCHURIA.
1st Co CO: St Lt. KIM, Ki Chol (28)
2nd Plat Ldr: Jr Lt. KIM, O Kun (23)

c. Medical
30% to 40% of his unit were suffering from Typhus and Cholera. Saw none in the unit recovering from these diseases. PW heard a rumor in the unit that Cholera and Typhus germs were dropped by US airplanes. They do not have any drugs for these diseases. Many were left dying or dead.
