FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - 0083) 26 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: YU, Song Jin (18) Pvt
DUTY: Rifleman
UNIT: 10th Div, 25th Regt, 2nd Bn, 4th Co, 1st Plat, 2nd Sqd
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 25 Jan 51 CHECHON

2. ASSESSMENT:
Evaluation: Cooperative in answering questions and information seems fairly reliable.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Surrendered to US 7th Div, 17th Regt on 12 Jan 51 at CHECHON and was turned over to 9th Inf on 25 Jan 51.
Escaped from his unit on 3 Dec 50 at TANYANG then went to CHECHON to surrender to UN Forces.
25th Regt and 27th Regt objective was ANDONG, the attack being spearheaded by the latter. These 2 Regt were ordered to avoid contact with UN Forces as much as possible. They were to go to their objectives and wait there until the CCF fought its way down to join them. His unit was not a combat unit. There were about 130 men in the 2nd Bn.
About 25 men were armed with PPSH SMG (1 magazine ea) and their duties were to go on patrol. Saw 3 M-1 rifles (24 rd ea), Japanese 99 rifles (30 rd ea) and rest of men armed with Russian rifles (30 rd ea). Did not see any mortars but his plat had about 24 mortar shells.

4. GENERAL INFORMATION:
Personalities: KIM, Dok Man, Jr Lt, Plat Ldr.
About two-thirds of the men wore quilted winter clothing.
Practically all the men had frostbites and when the unit was on the march, these men were forced to keep up with the unit.
Food found in villages was sufficient.
Morale was low because they were always moving or hiding in the mountains. They are in doubt about winning the war because they are always in hiding.W
