FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - 0084) 26 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: LEE, Chun Ho (24) Pvt
DUTY: Laborer
UNIT: 10th Div, 27th Regt, 3rd Bn, 3rd Co, 1st Plat, 2nd Sqd
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 25 Jan 51 2 km W of CHECHON

2. ASSESSMENT:
Evaluation: Cooperative in answering questions and information seems fairly reliable. However, tactical information and unit identity limited due to his approx 25 days in service.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. CIRCUMSTANCE OF CAPTURE:
O/a 11 Jan 51 escaped from his unit at TANIAN-GUN, MAPO-MYON and came down the CHECHON and surrendered.
O/a 17 Dec 50 10th Div consisting of approx 4,000 men departed KANGWON-DO, HWACHON, NK by foot and arrived TANIAN-GUN, MAPO-MYON o/a 10 Jan 51. This Div never engaged enemy. This unit departed MAPO-MYON o/a 11 Jan 51 to ANDONG to meet enemy (heard from a NCO) but he escaped as soon as they departed.
PW heard 10th Div consisted of 25th, 26th and 27th Regt.
1x60mm mortar, 2 HMG, 4 LMG in 27th Regt and 70% of soldiers were armed with PPSH SMG, Russian rifles, M-1 rifles or carbines. They only had 4-7 rd per rifle.
They received ammo when they departed NK but did not receive any after arriving SK. Food was obtained from villages and 4 men per Bn were detailed to carry rice (120kg) while they are on the move.
Most of the troops wore winter uniform but about 10-15 men were still wearing civilian clothing.
Approx 2 men ea Bn were suffering from frostbite.
Morale was low, because of cold weather, homesickness, and the unit being under strength.
