FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - 0079) 25 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: KIM, Ki Sop (Pvt)
UNIT: 9th Div, 2nd Regt, 2nd Bn, 4th Co, 2nd Plat, 3rd Sqd
DUTY: Rifleman
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 23 Jan 51 YONGWOL (DS5415)

2. ASSESSMENT:
Evaluation:
PW was cooperative but due to lack of education could not remember all the dates or place names. Information possibly true.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW conscripted into the NKA as a supply carrier Sep 50 when Communist troops were occupying South KOREA. After NKA retreated N, he was placed into 102-Unit, which o/a 28 Oct 50 became 3rd Regt of 9th Div at HOYAN-GUN, North KOREA.
10 Jan 51 when Div was approx 33 miles North YONGWOL (DS5415), PW was transferred to the 2nd Rept. On 20 Jan 51 the 2nd Bn, strength approx 200, reached YONGWOL and at that time PW heard, from his commanding officer, that the Div (Est. strength 5,000) was in vic YONGWOL. 21 Jan 51 CO ordered Unit to retreat 9 miles N fr YONGWOL and overheard officer saying 9th Div was retreating.
22 Jan 51 PW deserted his unit at ILGOL (DS4118) with intention of returning home while 2nd Bn was retreating N 22 Jan 51.

b. Weapons:
All troops of the 2nd Bn were armed with Soviet Rifles, M-1 Rifles, US Caroines, Japanese rifles and PPSH SMG. 2nd Bn also had 2 LMG.

c. Food:
Food supplies were insufficient and troops ate only twice a day, and at times due to the harassing by UN Air Force they were able to eat only once a day.

d. Morale:
Morale was low because of insufficient food, clothing, and cold weather. Out of the original 23 men in his 2nd Plat, 7 men either deserted or dropped or out because of frostbite.
