1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and seemed sincere. Although lacking education, he was alert and appeared to possess a good mind. Information was limited due to being unfamiliar with Korean place names. Information seems reliable.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH:
50th Army: 148th (code name: 1st Bn), 149th (code name: 2nd Bn), 150th (code name: 3rd Bn) Rifle Div, Arty Regt, Engr Bn and Sig Co.
150th Div: 448th (code name: 1st Co), 449th (code name: 2nd Co), 450th (code name: 3rd Co) Rifle Regt.
448th Regt: 3 Rifle Bn, 92mm Gun Co, Mort Co and Sig Co.
Each Rifle Bn: 3 Rifle Co, HMG Co, and Sig Sqd.
Each Rifle Co: 3 Rifle Plat, Mort Sqd and 3 Sig men.
Each Rifle Plat: 3 Rifle Sqd.
Each Rifle Sqd: 11 men.

25 Jan 51 PW and 9 other men of his squad were captured. One was killed and one was believed to have escaped. The 2 mortars and the remaining 15 rounds of ammo were confiscated by the capturing unit.

Approx 10 men in the 1st Co suffered from illness and frozen feet.
PW heard that they were to be shipped back to MANCHURIA.
Two deserters in the 1st Co.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNIT:
1st Bn, 448th Regt was in the vic Hill 156 (CR 3323) when PW was captured. Bn was digging foxholes.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted Oct 48 into CNA at HONAN CHENG (河南省).
Received tng with 164 CNA Div at HUPEI SHENG (湖北省).
Approx 10 mo of basic inf and arty tng received. (Oct 48 to Jul 49).
164th Div committed against CCF Aug 49 for 3 days at HUPEI SHENG (湖北省).
164th Div retreated to SSUCHUAN SHENG (四川省), CHENG-TU (成都) 12 Dec 49.
4th CNA Army captured by CCF and sent to HUPEI SHENG Jan 50.
3 CCF Div activated Jan 50 at HUPEI SHENG (one designated CCF 164th Div), employing the former CNA soldiers.
All were indoctrinated in Communism for 5 mo. No mil tng received.
PW Div departed HUPEI SHENG Jul 50, travelling alternately by train and on foot, arriving ANTUNG Oct 50.
When PW arrived ANTUNG, two other newly activated div had already arrived from HUPEI SHENG.
These 3 new div constituted the new 50th CCF Army, activated at ANTUNG Oct 50.
164th Div redesignated 150th Div.
50th Army armed with weapons, formerly belonging to 4th CNA Army.
150th Div departed ANTUNG Nov 50 by train and arrived at SINUIJU at an unk date.
148th and 149th Div believed to have departed ahead of 150 Div.
Div marched from SINUIJU and arrived PENGMA (XE3256) the same day.
Div utilized main hwy, passed through CHARYON GWAN (XE4513) and arrived NONAMPO at an unk date.
Div remained in this area approx 20 days, constructing defense positions and resting.
Div departed NONAMPO (date unk), passed through mountains and unknown towns to point 40 Km N of P'YONGYANG, where it remained 10 days.
Div passed through P'YONGYANG, utilizing main hwy all the way, and passed through SEOUL, o/a 13 Jan 51.
Approx 3 days after leaving SEOUL, div reached its destination, and area N of Hill 156 (CR 3323).

6. FOOD, AMMO AND OTHER SUPPLIES:
Food locally procured.
Average of 2 meals received daily, usually in insufficient amounts. No sickness or physical suffering because of lack of food in PW unit.
All men still possessed initial issues received in MANCHURIA, which was thought inadequate.
A little ammo was seen carried by horses.

7. ARMOR, ARTILLERY AND AIRCRAFT:
PW heard that the arty regt of the 50th Army had mountain guns.

8. SIGNAL:
Co and lower level units used runners.
Bn and above used tph.

9. MORALE AND BATTLE EFFECTIVENESS:
Aircraft were most feared by trps and morale was lowered considerably by constant aerial attacks.

10. MEDICAL:
a. Main sickness suffered among the troops was dysentery.
b. No immunizations given.
c. Approximately 10 cases of severe frost bite and frozen feet were noted. These were to be carried back to MANCHURIA on stretchers.
An undetermined number of mild cases of frozen feet were noted among the troops.
No treatment given.

11. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:

12. TACTICS AND TECHNIQUES:
a. Marches:
The 150th Div used main highway from P'YONGYANG to SEOUL; traveling all night long. No flank guards posted and security at halts poor. The unit marched in column of twos with no set number of paces between men.

b. Bivouacs:
Mountains with dense forests were usually selected for bivouac. An average of 1 sentry from each plat was posted. When more than 2 days were spent in one spot, foxholes were dug. Natural camouflage was utilized by troops.
Troops remained motionless whenever aircraft flew overhead.
