PW willingly surrendered to TAEJON-DONG Police because he hated every principal of NKA and finally found a opportune time and escaped. PW turned over to 7th Marines by TAEJON-DONG Police.

a. Strength of Unit:
(1) Original Strength:
At the time of organization at KANG WONG DO, HWA CHON, Nov 50, approx strength 7000 men in 10th Div as follows:
25th Regt - 2160
27th Regt - 2160
29th Regt - 2160
Arty Regt - 513
Code name of 1st Bn was “TAE LYONG GANG”. (name of river).
(2) Present Strength:
Present strength of Arty Regt was same as original strength because they were not committed.
b. Military History:
After 10th Div retreated from South KOREA above the 38th Parallel (KANG WONG DO Area) it was reorganized by conscripting from various villages in the area. PW was conscripted at HWACH’ON and assigned to Arty Regt 10th Div.
20 Dec 50: 10th Div moved South. PW Arty Regt traveled through mountains trail (exact routes u/k).
27 Jan 51 - Arrived at TAEJON DONG. Soon as PW unit arrived at TAEJON DONG, PW deserted. Surrendered to TAEJON DONG Police. The troops were told by 1st Bn CO intention of 10th Div was to cut off UN MSR.
c. Weapons and Equipment:
PW observed LMG, HMG, Russian PPsh SMG, Mortars, and pistols in Inf unit. No arty pieces in the Arty Regt but each man carried Russian Carbine and told Arty pieces will be issued to them when they captured American soldiers.
d. Status of Supply Points; Route of Supply:
No supply.
Food: Most of the food was obtained from villages. The troops were fed rice twice daily.
Clothing: Received only one set of clothing when conscripted. No further issue.
Ammo: 50 rd ea man.
1 Hand Grenade per man.
e. Other Units:
PW heard from fellow soldiers two Corps were following 10th Div so not to worry.
f. Morale:
Morale of communist is high but conscripts’ morale is very low.
g. The most effective weapon against NKA are arty and air strikes.
