1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared in good physical condition. PW was a farmer prior to being conscripted into the NKA. 18 Jan 51, PW was sent on a recon mission however, PW deserted and returned home. Upon arriving at his home, PW found that his grandparents had already fled S so he continued South until captured by the ROK Police vic 2 km S of OSAN 22 Jan 51. PW was cooperative, however, his information was limited and is considered not very reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. UNIT ORGANIZATION, STRENGTH AND EQUIPMENT
PW heard from a fellow soldier that the 4th Div was a reconstituted unit and that approx 40% of the men were recruits.
4th Div composed of 6th Regt and two other Regt.
17 Jan 51, PW observed three casualties in the 4th Div from UN air strikes.
2nd Co equipped with rifles and SMG.

b. UNIT ASSIGNMENT AND INTENTIONS
PW heard from an officer that if there were no UN forces in OSAN (CS2913) the 4th Div will advance to UIJONGBU (CS2778).

c. DISPOSITION
4th Div Hq located in tents under chestnut trees 1 km East of TONGDUCHON-NI (CS2999) 18 Jan 51.

d. COMMUNICATION
Telephones and runners were the means of communication throughout the unit.

f. ARMOR
Seven tanks (possibly T-34/85) seen near 4th Div Hq at TONGDUCHON-NI (CS2999) 18 Jan 51.

g. ARTILLERY
Five guns seen near the 4th Div Hq at TONGDUCHON-NI (CS2999) 18 Jan 51.

h. MORALE
Morale in PW unit was high. PW unit has not been engaged in combat.

i. CHRONOLOGY
PW conscripted into the NKA Jul 50 at YANGJU-GUN and sent to HAMHUNG (CV7418) where he received Inf basic training. Upon completing two months of training, PW assigned to a unit which he heard from an officer was the 4th Div, 6th Regt. 4th Div withdrew N to an unk town and conducted training (during the night only), which consisted of mountain climbing, night fighting, and advanced infantry training for approx one week. Nov 50, 4th Div departed the town and proceeded on foot to TONGDUCHON-NI (CS2999), via HAMHUNG (CV7418), WONSAN (CU6535), and POKKYE-RI (CT4856), arriving o/a 10 Jan 51. Here the 4th Div dug foxholes and trenches. 18 Jan 51, PW was given mission to scout areas S as far as possible and return by 26 Jan 51. At the same time, PW was given, by his Bn CO, a SK Identification Card. PW proceeded to SEOUL and continued South until captured by ROK Police in vic 2 km S of OSAN 22 Jan 51. His Identification Card was confiscated at time of capture.

j. FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES
Food insufficient and most of the daily rations procured from local farmers. No food supply was received from the rear.
Ammo also insufficient. Each rifleman had 30-35 rd of s/a ammo.
PW received only one issue of clothing since entering the NKA.

k. CAPTURED EQUIPMENT
Approx 40 US carbines were used by the NK Police at an unk village and also two US M-1 Rifles.

l. PRISONERS OF WAR
25 US PW were at WONSAN (CU6535) Aug 50. The PW were being marched North.

4. REMARKS:
PW was previously interrogated by the 25th Div IPW Team.
