PW captured while evading UN Force who opened fire on his unit 24 Jan 51. Because of lame leg PW was captured 25 Jan 51 by the 7th Marines at TA 0315N.

a. Strength of Unit:
(1) Original Strength:
2nd Bn - estimate 350 on 21 Dec 50 at SORIM MYON.
(2) Present Strength:
PW heard that plat ldr was worried because the strength of unit was less than half of the original strength (unk if this is half of Div, Regt or Bn.)
b. Chronology:
20 Dec 50 - Conscripted into 2nd Bn, 25th Regt in YANGGU, KOREA. On evening this date 20 new conscripts (PW included) left YANGGU and arrived SORIM MYON to 2nd Bn.
21 Dec 50 - Arrived SORIM MYON. Assembly point of 2nd Bn, 25th Regt. On the evening this date 2nd Bn left SORIM MYON and traveled every night resting during the day in villages.
o/a 24 Jan 51 - 2nd Bn reached area of ODUSAN. Upon arrival, all personnel alerted for enemy attack. 2400 hours, they were fired upon by UN Force.
25 Jan 51 - PW captured. PW heard from mission CO that 25th Regt was to take TAEGU.
c. Weapons and Equipment:
PW’s unit had the fol wpn:
Squad: Jap rifles, Russian rifles, and US M-1 Rifles.
150 rd ammo per man.

Co: 1 DPM-LMG
d. Status of Supply:
(1) Ammo - Ammunition was limited. Orders were to conserve ammo because no further ammo will be resupplied for a long time.
(2) Food - Food taken from villages.
(3) Clothing - Most men had one suit NK Army clothing. Others had US uniforms or civilian clothes. US uniforms were obtained in YANGGU, N KOREA. US uniforms were issued only to personnel who were previously committed against UN Force in token for the victorious recapture of N KOREA.
(4) Shelter - Shelter was usually taken in civilian homes.
e. Other Units:
PW heard from his friends that the CCF was to follow behind their unit.
f. Morale:
Morale of the old timers in the NK Army was very high. Morale of the recent conscripts was fair. Reasons were lack of food and clothing.
g. Effective Weapon:
NK Army personnel were afraid of air attacks because of strafing, rockets, and especially napalm bombs.
