2. ASSESSMENT:
Talkative but not observant. He inclined to underestimate distances and had poor judgement. Made several contradictory statements. Reliability, poor.

3. CHRONOLOGY:
Born in KOREA and entered MANCHURIA at age of S. Attended school for 8 years at YENCHI-HSIEN (延吉縣), MANCHURIA.
16 Mar 47 - Voluntarily joined the Democratic Allied Army (民主聯合軍) at YENCHI. Received three months basic training at the CCF 8th Route Army, TENCHI Training Center. Upon completion of training, assigned to the YENCHI Security Guard Unit, 1st Bn, 3d Co, 1st Plat, 3d Sqd. Engaged in security guard duty of the RR line between YENCHI and CHILIN, MANCHURIA.
15 Mar 48 - Transferred with the YENCHI Security Guard Unit to CHILIN. The unit engaged in occupation duty of the town which was captured from the Nationalist Forces by the CCF.
June 48 - Transferred to CH’ANGCH’UN (長春) with unit. The YENCHI Security Guard Unit was redesignated the Ind 17th Regt (獨立一七團), 8th Route Army. Approximately 3,800 men engaged for 4 months in constructing foxholes surrounding the city which was still in the hands of the Nationalist Forces.
Nov 48 - After the fall of CH’ANGCH’UN, the Ind 17th Regt was transferred to MUNDEN after short stay.
7 Jun 49 - The 17th Regt entered NANCH’ANG (南昌), CHINA and engaged in occupation duty of this town for approximately 8 months.
27 Mar 50 - Arrived CHENGCHOU (鄭州). The Lrd 17th Regt was reorganized and the Ind 15th Div was organized with only the Koreans of the Regt. The Div consisted of approximately 18,000 men who were recruited from all other CCF units.
4 Apr 50 - Departed CHENGCHOU (鄭州) with the Ind 15th Div by train.
27 Apr 50 - Arrived WONSAN (元山) via ANTUNG (安東) and SINUIJU (新義州).
14 May 50 - The Ind 15th Div was reorganized and called the NKA 7th Div, with strength of 12,000 men.

ARMED FORCES:
NANCH’ANG (南昌) CHINA
Sgt                Obs: Jun 49 - Feb 50
AIRFIELD:
Location: 7 km NW of the NANCH’ANG RR Station and 600 m E of the northward flowing CHANG River (長江) (800 m wide).
Description: The airfield was approximately 900 x 400 m and inclosed by a barbed wire fence 6 m high.
Surface and Runway: The surface of the field was unpaved and quite level. No runway was observed however PW saw a circular sloped concrete taxiway 7 m wide located on the central portion of the field, No further information.
Facilities: Three damaged concrete buildings, dimensions unknown, were located, one on the N, E; and W portions of the field. A concrete hangar with a gabled slate roof was located on the NW portion of the airfield. A wind-seek pole 2 m high was located stop a 2-story building 12 m high on the W portion of the field. No further details.
Aircraft and Activities: Observed 7 single engine, liquid cooled two seater aircraft in the hangar. The ships still had Chinese Nationalist Army markings. Heard these aircraft had been used for messenger or liaison flights. They were not used by the CCF. No activity on this airfield.
Comments: There were no CCF airforce personnel on this airfield, but garrison troops were stationed in the damaged buildings. The aircraft observed in the hangar were quite small but was not able to identify or remember the make.

FIELD ARTILLERY: Unit Area    Obs: Jun 49 - Feb 50
Location: The unit area was located on the NE bank of the CHANG River approximately 6 km NW of the NANCHANG RR Station. 1.5 km S of the above airfield.
Description: 300 x 200 m, inclosed by a barbed wire fence 2.5 m high. The area was formerly a farming district and the buildings were all farm houses.
Unit: The CCF 43d Army, Field Arty Regt, was stationed in this former Nationalist Army Arty Unit Area. The 43d Army Field Arty Regt was equipped with 2 captured 76 mm Guns, 4 x 57 mm Howitzers, and 6 x 82 mm Mortars. The Arty Regt also had 3 US made AA guns mounted on a three wheel carriage. There were approximately 1,200 men in the unit.
Comments: This Arty Regt had only captured equipment.

WIRELESS STATION:        Obs: Jun 49 - Jan 50
Location: Approximately 5 km NW of the NANCHANG RR Station and 600 m E of the E bank of the CHANG River. The RR line was located 1.2 km E of the wireless station.
Description: The wireless station covered an approximate 600 x 300 m area and was inclosed by a brick wall 4 m high.
Facilities: Three 2-storied brick buildings, approximately 8 m high, with gabled galvanized iron roofs. 3 wooden wireless towers 15 to 20 m high in the central portion of the area. No information of wireless facilities.
Comments: This wireless station was being used by the CCF but no military units were stationed in the area.

THERMO-ELECTRIC POWER PLANT: Obs: Jun 49 - Jan 50
Location: E bank of the CHANG River approximately 5 km WNW of the NANCHANG RR Station.
Description: The plant formed an oblong shape, 400 m in circumference.
Facilities: Three brick buildings including 1 two story building. Also observed was three steel tanks 6 m high and 3 m in diameter and one concrete smoke stack 1 m in diameter and 10 m high. Coal was transported to this power plant by tug beat and barges from CHANGSHA (艮沙). Not able to estimate the amount of coal consumed at this plant.
Product: The power generated at this plant was believed for use in the NANCH’ANG town area and adjoining farming areas. The population of the town was estimated to be 60,000.
Comments: Heard that this plant was operated 16 hours per day on two 8-hour shifts of 53 workers. No further details or information of facilities.

CONCRETE RR BRIDGE       Obs: Jun 49 - Jan 50
Location: The bridge spanned the NW flowing CHANG River, 800 m wide, at a point 600 m S of the NANCH’ANG RR Station.
Description: This single track concrete girder type RR bridge was approximately 850 m long and 5 m wide with narrow sidewalk on both sides. The bridge had four concrete pillars, approximately 2 m in diameter. The bridge was usually 5 m above the river water level.
Capacity: Unknown.
Comments: This bridge was constructed by CCF Engineers in Jun 49. Prior to the bridge construction, RR cars were transported across the river by ferry.
