Although informant was cooperative his memory was very poor and his replies were often conflicting. Reliability - Poor.
CHRONOLOGY:
1938 - PW moved HSINKING (新京), MANCHURIA with uncle and helped his uncle in farming. Then worked in a laundry for about 3 yr.
1942 - Went to MUTANCHIANG (牡丹江), MANCHURIA to work as a railroad laborer.
Jul 1943 - Went to KUNCCHULING (公主嶺), MAHCURIA and worked as farm hand.
Sep 1945 - Returned to KOREA.
AIRFIELD
HSINKING, MANCHURIA
OBS: 1940-1942
While delivering laundry PW occasionally passed by the airfield, which was located approx. 10 km N of the main RR station.
This airfield was under Japanese control during the above period, PW believes that this airfield was one of the largest airfields in MANCHURIA. The facilities of airfield were good.
PW could not recall the number of runways and the buildings on the airfield. He believed that there were underground hangars or repair shops on the field.
The terrain in this region was flat.
There were many barrack-like brick buildings in the area.
AIRFIELD
KUNGCHULING (公主嶺)
OBS Jul 1943 to Sep, ‘45
PW observed the airfield while engaged in farming around the airfield area. The airfield was located approx. 4km N of the RR station - in a farming area.
The airfield covered a large area. PW believes that he saw 2 concrete runways (size unknown). PW remembers seeing only one large hanger-like building. The roof of this building was arched.
Japanese single-engine fighter planes and twin-engine transports were using this field. At the end of World War Ⅱ Manchurian coolies stole and damaged the machinery and equipment on this airfield.
