PW cooperative and intelligent. Reliability - fair.
a. Chronology:
Sep 47 - Transferred from KOREA TRADE CO P’YONGYANG to the branch office in DAIREN (大連). PW Co imported books and musical instruments from DAIREN and other parts of MANCHURIA. Exports great amount of salted fish and carbide to DAIREN. Books imported were: Russian Literature, Medical and Chemical Text Books, Technical Trade Journals.
Mar 48 - Employed by the CH’ANGHSING TRADE CO as Accountant. This Company exports great quantities of rock salt and building materials to KOREA.
Mar 50 - Went back to KOREA, to look for another job.
b. Dairen Harbor:
OBS: 1947 - 48 (See Sketch)
Russian freighters of 3000 to 4000 tons and a few of 10,000 tons displacement frequent this harbor. These ships commute to VLADIVOSTOK via Japan and Yellow Sea. This harbor is well guarded by Russian and Chinese civilian guards. No one is allowed to enter the pier area, unless on official business. Passengers are permitted to enter with passports only.
c. Capacity of Harbor:
3-4 ships (3-4000 tons ea) per pier. 25 ships (3-4000 tons ea) in entire harbor.
About 3000 men are employed here (Chinese). All important jobs are held by Russians. There are also 4 Port Captains (Russians).
Depth of Harbor 30 meters. Difference between high and low tide - 5 meters. No effect on shipping.
