2. ASSESSMENT:
Very cooperative and possessed good memory. He is a railroad man with 16 yr of experience. His information of MUTANCHIANG is reliable.

CHRONOLOGY:
Apr 32 - Migrated to MUTANCHIANG and took a job as a janitor in MUTANCHIANG RR Station for 2 yr.
34- Promoted to clerk in the same station and audited receipts and expenditures.
Mar 48 - When Chinese 8th Route Army occupied MANCHURIA, they repatriated all who had worked long for the Japanese Government so he was sent to KOREA.

I MANCHURIA
Worked for MUTANCHIANG RR Station for 16 yr. Observed railway movements, traffic and operation.

RR LOCATION
OBS: 1932-48
The main RR Station was located in the loop of MUTANCHIANG. MUTANCHIANG is railroad junction on route SUI-FENHO (綏芬河) to HARBIN (哈爾濱) (E-W) and KIA-MUS-ZE (佳木斯) to TUMEN (圖們) (N-S).
RAILWAY TRAFFIC - Freight trains every 40 minutes on every line.

Freight trains averaging 12 cars are pulled by steam locomotives of Japanese make. Average speed was approximately 35 mph. Pass trains were scheduled twice daily on every line.

SPECIFICATIONS
Single track Russian standard gauge rails are 10 m in length and fastened by rail spikes on every tie on both sides. RR ties are of soft untreated wood, spaced about 18 apart. Rails were laid directly on the ties except on curves and intersections where plates are used between the rail and ties. Crushed rocks are used for roadbed. Maximum weight was 50 T per car.

BRIDGES
There are 3 large RR bridges
a. 2 ½ km E of MUTANCHIANG RR STATION
Steel bridge about 1 km long, 23 m high and 3 ½ m wide.
b. 3 km SE of MUTANCHIANG
Bridge made of steel and approximately 1 ¼ km long, 30 m high and 3 ½ m wide.
c. 25 km SE of MUTANCHIANG RR STATION
Steel bridge about 1 km long, 20 m high and 3 ½ m wide.

TUNELS
Between TUMEN and MUTANCHIANG there were approximately 17 tunnels ranging from 200 m to 4 km in length. There were 2 spiral type tunnels. The terrain was very mountainous.
Between HAILIN (海林) and HARBIN there were chains of tunnels an estimated total length of 15 km.

SYSTEM
RR Signals were electrically and manually operated. Utilized standard color Red, Green and Amber.

LOCOMOTIVE
In MUTANCHIANG there were approximately 50 locomotives on hand at all times. These locomotives were for emergencies, repair, and for relay purposes. They were steam engines and burned coal. The brake system was compressed air, external double shoe type. They had a 3 man crew to each locomotive.
