2. ASSESSMENT:
PW very intelligent and cooperative. One of the 200 Jap Army educated Manchurian officers. Due to nature of his army duty, economic observations only fair. PW barely managed to feed and keep his family. Reliability fair.
Armed Forces FUCHIN (41-139) (富錦)
Pvt (former Jap trained Lt) Obs: 1942
PW served as officer in the FUCHIN (富錦) area and claims the upland WUTINGSHAN (五㑯山) approx. 10 km NE from FUCHIN was prepared by the Jap Army for defense of this area in case of emergency. The 3 high points on the northern end of the upland were off limit areas to all, even to Manchurian soldiers. PW had occasion to enter this area.
At the base of the eastern side of the uplands close to village known as WUTINGSHAN, there is a barracks bldg. capable of billeting a regiment. There are truck roads winding up to three hills of this highpoint. The area was completely surrounded with barb wire entanglements at the base. There were also triangular entanglements further up all the hills. There were many concrete trenches suitable for emplacements commanding the northern sector. PW feels this area may be used in the further but cannot say if it is used now. (See sketch “1” for approx. location) (See sketch “2” for trench construction). The Japanese commander of the area was Col NISHIJIMA.

Armed Forces FUCHIN (富錦)
Pvt (former Jap trained Lt) Obs: 1942
Airfield:
PW claims there was an airfield 4 km SSE of FUCHIN. Planes observed were small planes flying between KIAMUSZE (佳木斯) and TUNGCHIANG (同江). PW knowledge of the field is limited because of observation was from the outside. PW claims this airfield can be extensively enlarged if necessary as the surrounding area is a great plain. (See sketch 3)
Buildings formerly used by Jap Army:
PW claims the Jap soldiers were billeted in one story red brick buildings 1,000m S of FUCHIN.
Building formerly used by Manchurian Army:
PW claims there was a Manchurian Regt billeted close to SHANG-CHILHTIT’SUN (上街地村) about 4 km W of FUCHIN.

For the Commanding Officer:
