2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative and at ease during interrogation. Spoke freely but seemed unobservant. PW seems quite intelligent. Reliability good.

CHRONOLOGY:
1932 - Feb 48 - MANCHURIA, CHILIN-SHENG, HUACHING-HSIEN, SHIHCHIEN CHIEH (吉林省 河津縣 石峴街) - Engaged in farming after graduating from middle school during the above period.

TOPOGRAPHY (SHINCHIEN) (石峴)
KEYA RIVER
OBS: 1932 - Feb 48
PVT (戰士)
LOCATION: About 900m South of RR station
SIZE: About 100m wide. Gradual slope on both bank. Dirt and gravel bottom. 1-2 deep. Flow of river was slow in a SE direction. Water very clear. River flooded about once in five years. Damage was very great.

TRANSPORTATION AND COMMUNICATION:
SHIHCHIEN(石峴)
STEEL BRIDGES      OBS: 1932-Feb 48
PVT (戰士)
LOCATION: One 900m south and one 2km north of RR station.
TYPE: Deck pratt type steel bridges. About 20 concrete piers.
SIZES: About 200m in length. Double track, standard gauge, RR across the two bridges.
REMARKS: River bank gradual slope at bridge point. Depth of river about 2m. About two 8th Route Army guards were posted at the bridges.

ECONOMIC        SHIH CHIEN
GRENADE MFG PLANT  HEARSAY Dec 45 - Feb 48
PVT (戰士)
LOCATION: About 1.5 km North of the RR station.
HEARSAY: Plant was a former Japanese pulp and paper mill.
AREA: About 500 x 1,000m west of the RR track and 200 x 200m east of the RR track.
BLDGS: The section west of the RR tracks was the former pulp and paper mill. There were about six large brick buildings of various sizes. (sizes unknown) Some were six to eight-stories in height with several smoke stacks.
The area was enclosed by an electrified barbed wire fence. 8th Route Army guards were posted. Identification cards were necessary to enter.
The area east of the RR track consisted of many brick bldgs. (Number and sizes unknown) and was enclosed by a barbed wire fence. 8th Route Army guards were posted. Identification cards were necessary to enter.
TRANSPORTATION: A single track, standard gauge, RR spur extended into the plant area west of the RR track and a narrow gauge RR extended into the west section of the plant.
PRODUCT: PW heard from a civilian, who worked in the plant, that it produced hand grenades similar to SKETCH.
PW observed civilians, who worked in the plant using similar type grenades to blast for fish in the river. Informant also heard the sound of blasting grenades within the plant area, probably for tests.
EMPLOYESS: Informant estimates about 1,500 civilians and some men from the 8th Route Army were working 24 hours in three shifts. PW heard that about 50 Japanese technicians were employed by the plant.
REMAKRS: PW observed the grenades packed in boxes being loaded on RR cars. Destinations unknown. Plant was supervised by an 8th Route Army officer. Name and rank unknown.
