Cooperative and spoke freely but claimed that he did not know the composition of his unit due to the relatively brief service with the unit.
Information seems fairly reliable.
a. Chronology:
Conscripted into the NKA at SUNCH’ON (YD5267) 4 Jul 50 and assigned to the 1944th Railroad Guard Unit, Transportation Platoon.
During Oct 50, PW and 10 others were separated from their unit and fled to IWON (BA5728), arriving 25 Oct 50.
1 Nov 50, PW was assigned to the I Corps, 8th Div, Recon Co at CHOSAN (YE3724).
During early Jan 50, the 8th Div departed CHOSAN and marched through UNSAN (YE3967), TOKCHON (BV6903), SARIWON (YC4065), HAEJU (YC3813), KAESONG (YC9605), and entered SEOUL 2 Feb 51.
From 3 Feb 51 to 8 Feb 51, 8th Div engaged UN units near OJONG-NI (CS0456). 8 Feb 51, the Div withdrew and entered SEOUL.
12 Feb 51, the 1st Regt, 8th Div and 3rd Platoon, Recon Co. 8th Div departed SEOUL, crossed the HAN River at TUKSOM (CS2656) 130600 I Feb 51, and was engaged by UN units 1½ Km South of TUKSOM 131200 I Feb 51.
During the night of 13-14 Feb 51, the 3rd Bn, 1st Regt was separated from other units of the 1st Regt. It arrived at a hill 3 Km S of TUKSOM, and was attacked by UN Units 14 Feb 51 and the troops of 3rd Bn dispersed in disorder. PW and two others arrived at a hill 1½ Km South of TUKSOM 14 Feb 51.
170700, PW surrendered.
b. Location and Activities of Units:
The mission of the 1st Regt, 8th Div was to proceed to SUWON (CS2527) without being detected and to destroy bridges in that area. The I NK Corps was to attack southward to the SUWON Area after the 1st Regt completed its mission.
PW observed CCF unit on the N bank of the HAN River near TUKSOM 12 Feb 51.
12 Feb 51, the NK 17th and 47th Divisions were located in SEOUL.

e. Food, Ammo and Other Supplies:
All supplies were brought to the unit by the transportation unit. The 8th Div received ammo at SEOUL 3 Feb 51.
f. Armor:
PW observed 3 tanks of the NKA at SEOUL 12 Feb 51.
g. Signal:
The Recon Co communicated directly with the 8th Div Hq with wireless telephones.
h. Morale and Battle Effectiveness:
Morale of the Recon Co troops was low because they believed that victory was impossible. Many troops were shirking their duties and submitting false reports.
i. Medical:
No contagious diseases within the 8th Div.
No frozen feet noted in the 8th Div.
j. Psychological Warfare:
PW surrendered after he heard from a village civilian that prisoners of the UN were not killed.
Saw leaflets which urged NKA troops to surrender. Fair treatment was promised.
Could not believe it, but still could not forget it.
