1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative but had limited information. Information appears fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Conscripted Jan 44 at HOPEI SHENG (河北省) into the CNA 3rd Army.
Captured at PEIPING (北平) Jan 49 by the CCF 47th Army.
Departed PEIPING, Feb 44 and arrived HONAN SHENG May 49 where he was assigned to the 42nd Army. Traveled within the HONAN SHENG area until Feb 50, when the 126th Division departed for HEILUNG CHIANG SHENG (黑龍江省), arriving during same month.
126th Division engaged in agricultural work until Sep 50, departed for CHIAN (輯安), arriving o/a 4 Oct 50.
Div crossed the YALU River over a pontoon bridge and entered MANP’OJIN o/a 15 Oct 50. Remained for 5 days.
Departed MANP’OJIN o/a 20 Oct 50 and arrived SINHUNG-NI (CA7319) after 10 days of marching. Remained for 5 or 6 days, then marched over the main highway and arrived CHANGJIN (CA4529) o/a 11 Nov 50. Departed the same day and arrived SOOSU (CA7414) o/a 15 Nov 50.
Due to the superior number of UN troops in that area, the division returned to SINHUNG-NI after 4 days. Div remained at SINHUNG-NI for 4 days.
Departed SINHUNG-NI o/a 22 Nov 50 and arrived MAENGSAN (BU8693) o/a 16 Dec 50.
126th Div was engaged at MAENGSAN for one day, resulting in its occupation of that city.
Departed MAENGSAN a day after the battle, marched through mountains, and arrived YONCHON (CT3117) during latter Dec 50.
Engaged for 5 days at YONCHON and withdrew northward for 6 days. After 4 days, departed and arrived CHORWON (CT4335) after marching 15 days. Marched 3 days and arrived KUMSAN-NI (CS8495).
378th Regt departed KUMSAN-NI 30 Jan 51 and arrived in the U TU SAN (牛頭山) area 13 Feb 51. Went into defensive position and was engaged 14 Feb 51. PW deserted his unit 15 Feb 51 and was captured.

c. Replacements:
15 Jan 51, the mortar company asst commander and the asst political advisor left the unit to obtain replacements at ANTUNG, MANCHURIA.

b. Food, Ammo and Other Supplies:
Food was procured locally in insufficient amounts.
No ammo supplies or stockpiles seen.

e. Morale:
Morale was low due to the insufficient food, inadequate clothing and the exposure to the cold weather constantly.
Troops were afraid to fight.

f. Signal:
Runners were employed up to battalions. Higher echelon communicated by telephones.

g. Psychological Warfare:
PW surrendered. He was a former CNA soldier and was strongly opposed to communism.
Saw leaflets near the 38th parallel; it was No 7028 safe conduct pass.
PW believed its contents.
