PW, however, did not observe any tanks from that date till the day of capture.

d. Food and Ammo Supplies:
Food was obtained through confiscation; PW received 1 kg of rice and some pickled vegetables daily. 5 Feb 51, the 116th Div was supplied with a new issue of ammo at a small village approx 24 Km NW of SEOUL. The supply consisted of rifle and machine gun ammo, grenades, dynamite, and mortar shells. 3 Trucks (Jap & US) were used to haul the ammo; trucks traveled only at night without lights and were concealed during the day.

e. Signal:
Bn and higher echelon units used telephones; lower echelons used runners. Bugle calls were also used for revielle, assembly, and such when the unit was in rear areas.

f. Morale:
Morale of the troops was low because of restless days and also because of the high casualties.

g. PW:
Observed 3 American PW in the vicinity of KWANGJU (CS4049) 14 Feb 51. These PW appeared clean shaved, and wore trench coats, shoe pacs and pile caps. Heard from other CCF soldiers that the Americans received twice as many rations as they. They did not appear to have undergone rough treatment. Also heard that these PW were to be moved to the rear.

h. Medical:
Approx 50% of the 2nd Co troops, 1st Bn, 346th Regt, 116th Div were suffering from malaria. Patients were given yellow pills, two every 12 hr, until symptoms disappeared. When the patient was just about cured, another man seemed to contract this illness. Serious cases were evacuated to hospitals in the rear.
There were a few minor cases of frostbite and frozen feet, patients were treated immediately by unit medics.

i. Psychological Warfare:
Voluntarily surrendered because he was sick from Malaria and had no desire to fight any longer.
Did see leaflets. The leaflets stated that this war was not for the CCF for they will not gain anything if they prolonged it, except to be killed or suffer. It also stated that the PW would receive good treatment and food if he surrendered.
After reading this PW intended to surrender. The majority of the soldiers also intended to surrender.
