FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS Special Report 029) 22 February 1951

2. ASSESSMENT:
Physical condition, good. Cooperation, judgment of distances and measurements and memory - fair. Intelligence - poor. Reliability - Fair.

3. MARCHES:
a. Marches are made between 1700 and 0500 hours.
b. Highways and secondary roads are used for marching.
c. Two 15 minute halts are usually made during a night's march. No security measures are taken during halts.

4. BIVOUACS:
a. Troops sleep in the hills during daylight hours. Sometimes, they sleep as much as 12 hours a day. Two meals per day are usually eaten, on or along secondary road, at about 0600 and 1800 hours.
b. Troops cover themselves with leaves and branches while sleeping during the day.

5. ASSEMBLY FOR THE ATTACK:
a. Highways are usually used as assembly areas and are located not more than one mile from the bivouac area.
b. Troops move from their bivouac areas to the assembly area from all directions.
c. Troops reach the assembly area within one hour before the attack.
d. Troops are instructed as to what their objectives will be, the distance they will cover, etc.
e. Troops move out of the assembly area in one column.

6. OBSERVATION:
No OP are set up along the routes of march.

7. ANTI-TANK TACTICS:
Hand grenade is the only weapon used against tanks.

8. AIRCRAFT:
PW saw no CCF planes in KOREA.

9. SUPPLY:
a. When PW came into KOREA, he carried about 6 pounds of wheat, biscuits and crackers. These were made in MANCHURIA, and were used as noon meals. They lasted only a short time and none issued again.
b. Believes ammunition resupplies are sent to the post by means of trucks and bearers.
c. Troops in unit wear cotton padded jackets, trousers and overcoats, fur-lined caps, fur-lined or leather boots, or canvas shoes which the PW called "ball shoes" (球𩋘). No reissue of clothing will be made.
d. No civilian clothing has ever been worn by the troops.

10. COMMUNICATIONS:
a. Runners are used to carry both verbal and written orders and, occasionally, documents.
b. Although a bugler is assigned to the company, his bugle has never been used in KOREA Whistles are used to assemble troops. This unit has never used flares in KOREA.

11. TRAINING:
Aside from three months political training, received no other training.

12. MEDICAL:
Only about 4 or 5 men in company suffered from frostbite.

13. DISCIPLINE:
a. Military discipline of unit has been well maintained in KOREA just as it has been in CHINA.
b. No desertions were reported in unit.
