PW captured by elements of 21st RCT. PW suffering from self inflicted wound of right hand. PW cooperative but of below average intelligence (illiterate). Not recommended for further interrogation.
a. Chronology:
PW conscripted into the CCF at LINGSHI-HSIEN 11 Aug 48. 38th Army crossed into North KOREA o/a 20 Oct 50. 38th Army crossed 38th parallel o/a 1 Jan 51 and arrived at unk location 24 km generally NE of SEOUL after 2 nights march. Biovouacked here approx 1 mo to resupply and rest. Departed here approx 15 days ago (10 Feb 51) and proceeded S arriving at a mountain vic CS 672528 and told to hold this position at all cost until reinforcements arrive. 9th Co CP was located approx 2 “ri” (2/3 miles) generally N from CS 672528. 2nd Plat located approx 1.6 km to the W from place of capture. 2nd Bn was deployed 2 km W along hill running NW from place of capture. 240930 Feb 51 received airstrike. Casualties unk. 241000 Feb 51 3rd Plat encountered UN troops. 241130 PW unit was overrun by UN troops. During this engagement suffered 10 casualties (KIA).

d. Food & Ammo:
Food locally procured, Average of 1 meal per day while in combat. S/A ammo picked up enroute. No knowledge of supply installations to the rear.
e. Knowledge of Other Units:
Approx 5 or 6 days ago heard from political leader that 38th, 40th and 42nd Armies withdrew N across the HAN River to reorganize. Also 6 CCF armies with plane support and other heavy weapons will start spring offensive in the very near future.
f. Morale:
Morale among troops very low due to lack of sleep, food, warm clothing and also no air support and new weapons which was promised. Confusion among officers.
g. Replacements:
Approx 1 month ago heard from political leader that CCF will reinforce their current military in KOREA with CCF troops now known to be in CHINA.
h. UN Leaflets:
No knowledge of propaganda broadcast. PW saw “Good Conduct Pass” but unable to read.
i. Prevailing Disease:
Many suffering from cough and dry heaves. No knowledge of communicable disease.
j. UN PW:
PW observed 6 US PW Nov 50 at KUJUNG. Heard from comrade that PW were being taken to HARBIN.
