1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative but lacked information because he was not interested in military operations.
Information seems fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW was inducted into the CNA during Jan 48 at ANTUNG SHENG (安東省) and assigned to the 46th CNA Army. After receiving one month training, arrived SSUPING (四平) during Mar 48.
After engaging CCF Unit at SSUPING, withdrew to CHANGCHUN, during Mar 48.
Sep 48, transferred to SAUN where PW was captured by the CCF 105th Div during Nov 48.
Nov 49, PW was brought along with the CCF 105th Div to FENG HUANG CHENG (鳳凰城) where he received training until Feb 50.
Feb 50 arrived TIENCHIN (天津) and was assigned to the CCF 66th Army, 197th Div, 589th Regt. 66th Army was engaged in farming in the TIENCHIN area until Oct 50.
Oct 50, the 66th Army arrived ANTUNG.
Oct 50, the 589th Regt crossed the YALU River from ANTUNG into SINUIJU (XE1839). 589th Regt arrived KUSONG (YD0087) from SINUIJU 5 days after entering KOREA. After resting at KUSONG for 20 days departed KUSONG and marched to KUMHWA (CT6438).
After departing KUMHWA, arrived at the 38th Parallel south of KUMHWA, where the unit engaged UN Forces for 5 days. Arrived CHUNCHON (CS8993).
O/a 3 Feb 51, departed CHUNCHON and arrived at a hill 3 km North of CHUNGJU (DR0591) 10 Feb 51.
PW was captured 12 Feb 51 after an engagement.

b. Location and Activities of Units:
10 Feb 51, 3rd Bn, 589th Regt arrived on a hill 3 km North of CHUNGJU (DR0591).
12 Feb 51, 3rd Bn position was attacked by a UN unit and the Bn withdrew.
Heard that other units of the 589th Regt were located to the rear of the 3rd Bn.

  Personnel losses were caused chiefly by UN artillery fire 12 Feb 51.

e. Food, Ammo and Other Supplies:
3rd Bn was resupplied with ammo 2 days after engaging UN Units at the 38th Parallel.

f. Signal:
Battalion - Regiment utilized telephones and mounted messengers. Lower units used runners.

g. Morale and Battle Effectiveness:
Morale was very low due to insufficient food, lack of proper clothing, and effect of UN aircraft.

h. Medical:
No communicable disease was noticed in the 589th Regt.
7 or 8 troops of the PW company were sent to the rear because of frozen feet.

i. Psychological Warfare:
PW captured.
He saw leaflets at KUSONG.
Fair treatment was promised if one surrendered.
PW believed it, but just followed his leader.
