1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
PW surrendered at CHUDONG NI (DS 1549) 090300 Feb 51.

3. ASSESSMENT:
Reliability: Fair
Length of Service: 2 mo in NKA, 5 mo in ROK
Physical Condition: Good
Attitude: Cooperative

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
27 Jul 49 - Conscripted into ROK at TAEJON and assigned to the 8th Div, 21st Regt, 1st Bn, 3rd Co, 2nd Plat.
25 Nov 50 - Captured by CCF at YUNGWON when the 8th Div was overrun.
2 Dec 50 - PW was turned over to NKA Replacement Bn and indoctrinated for 5 days.
16 Dec 50 - Assigned to the 6th Div, 101st Regt, 1st Bn, 1st Co, 3rd Plat, 2nd Sqd.
6 Feb 51 - PW deserted with a friend and surrendered.

b. Unit Movement:
O/a 25 Dec 50 - The 5th Div crossed the 38th Parallel at KUMHWA.
O/a 3 Jan 51 - Arr SANDONGPYONG (DS 2156).
4 Feb 51 - 3rd Bn (101st Regt) left its position (DS 2253) and headed south-west to reinforce 7th Div.
6 Feb 51 - 1st Bn (101st Regt) left its position (DS 2156) and headed toward PYONGCHUN GUN to engage ROK units.
6 Feb 51 - 6th Div Hq was believed to be located approx 10 to 15 km E of SANGDONGPYONG (DS 2056).

c. Organization:
6th Div - 101st, 102nd, and 103rd regt. Each Regt - 3 Bn. Each Bn - 3 Co, Mortar Co, Comm Plat, Med Plat, and Transp Plat. Each Co was composed of 3 Plat.

d. Strength: (as of 5 Feb 51)
101st Regt: 2,500
1st Bn: 700
1st Co: 80
3rd Plat: 22
Casualties: Approx 40 men were killed by air attack near 38th Parallel 26 Dec 50.

e. Intention:
(1) 6th Div: To prepare for a counter offensive.
(2) 101st Regt: To prepare for a counter offensive. Meanwhile send reinforcements to 7th Div which was under strength.
(3) 1st Bn and 3rd Bn of the 101st Regt have been sent to the 7th Div area.

f. Weapons:
3 mortars (82mm) w/250 rd
2 HMG (US) ammo unk
2 LMG (US) w/ 4, 500 rd
Russ rifles (80%) w/100 rd ea
American M-1 (20%) w/100 rd ea
No re-issue of small arms ammo.

g. Supply:
(1) Food: Locally procured. 2 meals per day - mainly rice and bean soup. 7 days rations were issued.
(2) Ammo: 100 rd rifle ammo and 2 hand grenades per man. 250 rocket shells in 1st Bn of 101st Regt. No ammo dump in area.
(3) Medicine: None, no treatment was given to wounded or victim of recent epidemic.
(4) Clothing: Every man wore CCF uniform. New Chinese made canvass shoes. Shipment of CCF summer uniforms and under-wear are on way.

h. Replacement:
NKA will be replaced by CCF in the near future.

i. Other Unit:
(1) PW heard that other units of II Corps are coming into 1st Bn area.
(2) PW heard that the V Corps is situated within KAPCHON MYON (DS 2655).
(3) Approx 8km W of HANNE, on a hill, there were an estimated 2,000 troops.

j. NKA Tactics:
At HANNE (?) PW heard that an ambush attack on tanks was being prepared with stick grenades and pint-sized gasoline-filled bottles to be thrown at UN tanks from high hills at the road approach to HANNE. 70 troops per Co of 1st Bn (101st Regt) are prepared for this mission.
