FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - No Number) 2 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: CHE IL Hwan, 1700979 (ROKA)

UNIT: 6th ROK Div, 7th Regt, Transp Unit

2. ASSESSMENT:
Source was very cooperative. Not recommended for further interrogation.
Source was captured by the CCF 3 Nov 50 at TAEPYONG and turned over to the NKA. PW camp located in PYOKTONG between MAPPOJIN and SINUIJU along south bank of Yalu river, where he observed an estimated 10,000 ROK PW and 300 civilians.
27 Dec 50 all 300 civilians were divided into groups according to their home provinces and each group was given one certificate of release. Prior to leaving they were told that since SEOUL and TAEGU were occupied and only PUSAN left, it was only a matter of days before victory. In order to feed the troops, farmers were essential to cultivate the land and plant rice. All soldiers will be held until the war was over but civilians will be released to go back to their farms. If at anytime they desire to join the NKA they were free to do so.
Source and 31 others, claiming that they were civilians, attached to ROK Army, were released 27 Dec 50. While traveling south, observed an estimated 1,000 CCF troops concentrated in vic of SINUP (POCHONG) approx 35 KM NNE of SEOUL 18 Jan 51. Then 26 Jan, observing an estimated 50 CCF and 500 NKA troops in vic of YANGDONG and YANGPYONG, headed NW directions of SEOUL. Same night while hiding in a house, observed an estimated 200 horses pulling sleighs loaded with rice and several hundred laborers, also carrying rice from vic of YANGPYONG towards SEOUL. Outside of this no other movement or concentration of enemy seen.
Following is the translation of certificate issued to the group to return home:

Name: KIM Chon Hwan (age 34) and 31 others.
Above 31 men were captured by the Chinese Volunteer Army and imprisoned by this PW enclosure. According to the results of the interrogation at the PYOKTONG-GUN Political Defense Section we certify that they shall return home.
