FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - No Number) 6 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Source was very cooperative but tactical info is limited because after his escape he was trying to avoid the enemies. Info obtained seems to be reliable.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
1 Jan 51 100 men of ROK 36th Regt were captured by CCF at MOKTONG-NI and were on the way to CHORWON, PW Camp. Source escaped when they were at approx 8 km N of 38th parallel on 6 Jan 51. 4 Feb 51 source was captured by 23rd Inf.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology: 6 Jan 51 there were approx 200 CCF troops in the unit which captured source. They were armed with Soviet make rifles and US carbines and heading north of CHAEWON PW Camp from a location 8 km north of 38th parallel.
On 7 Jan 51 source observed approx 1,000 men of CCF unit (identified them by their language), approx 40 horses transporting electric wire and straw bags, and 10 oxen carrying wounded soldiers at NOKTON-NI approx 12 km north of KAPYONG heading south. Troops had 10 x 60mm mortars with about 18 rd of ammo per, 5 auto-rifles with about 40 rd each, and 50% were armed with Soviet make rifles with 40 rd each. Personnel who did not have rifles had 3-4 hand grenades each.
O/a 1 Feb 51 source observed approx 50 CCF troops sleeping in Foxholes at OKCHONG (approx 2 km N of YANGPYONG), but did not observe any weapons.

b. Ammo: Did not observe any ammo supply being received while with CCF troops.

c. Food: Food obtained from the civilians in villages was sufficient with 3 meals a day.

d. Uniforms: all of the troops were in cotton padded winter uniform and had on cotton padded shoes.

e. Medical: Contagious diseases, none.

f. Morale: Morale of soldiers seemed to be high, because they were always singing songs.
