a. Chronology:
8 May 49 - Conscripted into the Independent Engineer Co, 9th Div at CH’ONGJIN (淸津). Received 3 months training in engineering mine laying, nomenclature of HMG, LMG and construction and repair of bridges.
Aug 49 - 15 Jun 50 - Learned about history of political parties, North and South KOREA, US and USSR policies, Internal Affairs and characteristics of South Korean Army.
17 Jun 50 - Arrived at SINCH’ON (信川) and received basic training until 25 Jun 50.
26 Jun 50 - Engaged in combat with ROK for 3 days. Unit lost 150 men.
1 Jul 50 - Arrived SEOUL by train and received 30 days recuperation leave.
10 Aug 50 - Arrived TAEJON (大田) by foot because RR tracks were damaged.
15 Aug 50 - Arrived at KOCH’ANG (居昌) and again engaged combat against the ROK until 20 Sep 50. Approx 3,500 men in one Mechanized Regt were destroyed by US planes. Also lost 15 medium tanks, 20 x 122mm howitzers, 20 x 120mm mortars and 50 x 45mm anti-tank guns.
21 Sep 50 - Started to retreat.
7 Oct 50 - PW and 6 others arrived at KANGGYE (江界) via TAEJON (大田), CH’ONGJU (淸州) INJE (麟蹄) and CHONCH’ON (前川)
10 Oct 50 - Approx 4,000 men from original 12th Div and approx 3,000 stragglers assembled at KANGGYE and reorganized the 12th Div with strength of 7,000.
2 Nov 50 - Received combat training and political science such as blunders of NK army while in advance, what methods should be taken when third world war starts and self criticism.
5 Jan 51 - Arrived approx 3km N of WONJU (原州). Received training mainly on bridge construction.
26 Jan 51 - PW and 6 others received direct orders from the Div CO to reconnoiter CH’UNGJU (忠州) 60km SW of WONJU. Purpose of this mission was to scout the UN defense lines and strength, position, and fire power, light and heavy machine gun positions and to see whether any mines are buried before each defense line and how the mines are buried. Whether bridges are destroyed if any and how much repair is needed.
29 Jan 51 - Without accomplishing the mission, PW was captured at HUNGAM-NI(興岩里)

c. Prisoner of War:
PW saw approx 1,000 US PW at HONGCH’ON (洪川). They were held in approx 50 houses.
d. Politics
PW heard that the president of the Labor Party had recited a statement of strategic information written by NK president KIM, IL Song (金日成). Three possible results of present war are:
(1) This war will end within KOREA.
(2) It will change into a prolonged war.
(3) It will spread into the 3rd World War.
