1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Source was cooperative but tactical information was limited for Source was in hiding after he escaped from the NKA. Information seems to be reliable.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. CIRCUMSTANCE OF CAPTURE:
Source and 5 other ROK soldiers were captured by NKA o/a 4 Dec 50 in vic of PYONGYANG. Wherever the NKA unit went, the Source and others were used to carry rice and ammo. o/a 10 Jan 51, Source and another ROK soldier escaped at vic of SUN-MYON. After escaping from NKA, Source and another intended to locate their former unit but were picked up by UN Forces while enroute. Source received 1 hour communist lecture while a prisoner of the NKA.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Enemy organization: Source heard from NK soldier that the unit which captured them was the 12th Div, 2nd Regt.
The Bn that captured Source and 5 others was estimated to be about 150 strong and weapons observed in the Bn were 3x60mm mortars (5 rd ea), 1 LMG per sqd (1,000 rd or more ea), 4 PPSH per sqd (700 rd ea) and other men were armed with Russian rifles (150 rd ea). Every men carried 2 hand grenades. Source observed 2 field telephones and 3-4 wireless sets in Bn. Source observed practically the same type and amount of weapons and commo equipment in other two Bn in 2nd Regt.
At time of Source escape o/a 10 Jan 51, the 12th Div was retreating north from WONJU. Source heard from NK soldier that 12th Div was not retreating, but instead, was being replaced by CCF and that, the 12th Div was to infiltrate to the UN rear. Source believes the 12th Div went to HOENSONG. While a prisoner, Source heard from NK soldier that the CCF was to attack on the western front while the NKA attacked the eastern front.
O/a 1 Feb 51 PW observed NKA patrol of 5-6 men armed with PPSH SMG at OKCHI-GI (approx 12 km NE of WONJU).

b. Clothing: only one third of 2nd Regt wore cotton quilted winter uniform while the remaining two third had summer uniforms.

c. Physical condition: About 5-6 men from each Plat suffered frost-bite but they endured the long marches despite the bitter cold. Some of the men wore hand woven straw sandals.

d. Medical: Neither saw nor heard of any contagious diseases.

e. Food: The 12th Div received no food supply but food found in deserted villages was plentiful. Every one carried two days supply of rice for use as emergency rations.

f. Morale: The morale of the men was high for they thought that they were fighting for the people and their rights.
