PW was a slow talker. Information seems fairly reliable.
a. Chronology:
Inducted into the CNA 31st Army, 204th Div, 6th Regt, 2nd Bn at CHIANG HSI SHENG in July 47.
Received one year of infantry training at an NCO School at TAIWAN. PW completed the course in Aug 48 and was appointed a M/Sgt.
In Jan 49, the CNA 31st Army defected to the CCF 4th Field Army at PEKING by order of General FU (俥) because they were surrounded.
Between Jan to April 49 the CNA troops (PW) were performing odd jobs as PW for the CCF.
PW was placed into the CCF 5th Co, 2nd Bn, 366th Regt, 112th Div, 38th Army at PEKING in April 49.
Received no training.
The 336th Regt left PEKING April 49 by foot arriving at KUANGHSI (廣西) in Oct 49. Between April to Oct 49, the 336th Regt was travelling at various places, which PW could not recall.
The 336th Regt remained at KUANGHSI and fought with the CNA troops until Dec 49. PW company, however, was never in combat.
The 336th Regt left KWANSI Dec 49 by foot and arrived at HONAN SHENG (湖南省) in late Dec 49. The 336th Regt remained at HONAN for 6 months, cultivating land.
The 336th Regt left HONAN in June 50 by train and arrived at LIAO TUNG SHENG (遼東省) in June 50.
Received 2 months of litter bearer training. Others received infantry training. The 336th Regt left LIAO TUNG SHENG in Oct 50 by train and arrived at KUJANG DONG (XE 2034), KOREA in late Oct 50.
PW stated that while travelling from LIA TUNG SHENG to KUJANG-DONG, he only remembered passing SSUPING (四平). Soldiers were battle equipped.
While travelling from KUJANG DONG to the place of capture, the following places were passed:

| PW saw the Arty piece pulled by horses once at an unknown place in KOREA (after KUJANG-DONG). | ||

e. Replacements:
The Regt Political officer went back to CHINA in Jan 51 to get replacements. PW did not know if it was for the battalion, regiment or division.
f. Supplies:
PW first received one grenade at LIAO TUNG SHENG in Oct 50, because he was a litter bearer. Each rifleman received 200 rd of ammo. Rifleman received ammo many times while in KOREA, but amounts, places, and dates were unknown. No clothing was received while in KOREA.
Source of ammo supplies was unknown. While in KOREA, food was acquired from farmers.
g. Signal:

Bugles were not utilized in combat. It was used only for mess and assembly. Although there was a flare gun in PW Company, he did not know how or when it was utilized.
h. Morale and Battle Effectiveness:
The morale in PW company was very low, because they lacked clothing, walked long marches at nights, and that they were not living as humans.
i. Medical:
In PW Company, 20% of the troops had diarrhea; 20% malaria; and 10% frostbitten feet.
While in KOREA troops did not receive any immunizations.
Iodine was applied to frostbitten feet. Those who had severe frostbitten feet were sent to the rear.
PW and 7 others received 2 months of litter bearer training at LIAO TUNG SHENG.
j. Psychological Warfare:
PW was captured by the 7th Cav while sleeping.
PW saw UN leaflets many times at an unknown place, d/u.
The leaflets stated, “If you surrender, we will apply medicine to your wounds; we will give you warm food and clothing.”
PW believed the leaflets because, while in the CNA, he received aid from the US. If he had had the opportunity, he would have surrendered.
PW believed that many of the others felt the same way about the leaflets.
