Source was cooperative and information seems to be reliable, but tactical information is limited since he was guarded very strictly.
Not recommended for further interrogation.
O/a 3 Jan 51 approx 35 men of 2nd Plat of 9th Div ROK were captured by NKA, near 38th Parallel. Source and 34 other PW were marched south. O/a 24 Jan source escaped at about 28 km N of WONJU, but was again captured by the same unit on the same day.
1 Feb 51 source escaped again at about 20 km N of WONJU and was picked up by 38th Regt the same day. When source made his escape, there were only 4 others left. (others escaped enroute)
The Unit which captured the source and others had estimated strength of 500 (believed to be a Regt) and were armed with 4-5 mortars carried by the troops. An unk number of LMG (believed to have 1 LMG per Plat), M-1 rifle carbines (Plat Ldr only) and Soviet rifles.
31 Jan the unit came down as far as 28 km N of WONJU and were resting, but 2 Plat (approx 50 men) were sent out to location approx 20 KM N of WONJU 1 Feb 51. Mission of unit unk.
Source was given M-1 rifle (few rounds) and was ordered to go along with them. Upon reaching destination, source escaped 1 Feb 51.
Ammo and food supplies seems insufficient.
Source did not observe any other enemy units.
Neither heard of nor observed any contagious diseases.
Morale of soldiers seems to be high because of strong propaganda that majority of major cities were occupied by the NKA and CCF.
