PW was very cooperative and answered questions freely but does not seem to be too intelligent. Information seems fairly reliable.
While on patrol on 12 Feb 51, PW was taken ill so he was left behind by his unit. On 14 Feb 51, PW went to find his unit and while he was wandering around he was captured by the 18th ROK Regt.
a. Chronology
o/a 26 Jan 51, the NKA V Corps HQ was at KAEMEKKOL (Approx. 28 KM E of HONGCHON).
10 Feb 51, elements of the V Corps were in the following localities:
6th Div approx 12 KM N of WONJU
7th Div approx 13 KM N of WONJU
9th-10 Div located approx 6 KM E of WONJU
1 Feb 51, PW heard from his company Commander that the V Corps objective was WONJU but he does not know when and where the attack was going to take place.
26 Jan 51, PW Recon Company was ordered to patrol the area surrounding WONJU as to the terrain and road conditions. They were also told to find out how many tanks the UN Forces had around WONJU and what routes did they travel on. The Recon Company had 3 wireless sets to report in to their commanding officer on any information concerning the UN Forces. The Recon Co made the following reports to V Corps Hq between 26 Jan - 12 Feb 51.
“1. The UN Forces always used trucks to transport supplies and personnel.
2. UN Colored troops evacuated the village of (?).”
There were 80 men in the Recon Co and they were armed with Russian made rifles (80 rd eea) and PPSH SMG (300 rd ea).
Recon Co always patrolled at night and never during the day.
b. Clothing: Everyone in Recon Co wore winter uniforms
c. Diseases: 5 men from the Recon Co were sick with some kind of disease (Symptoms: Headache, high fever and chills)
d. Food: Food found in villages was sufficient
e. Morale: Morale of the troops was high
