ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 3133 2 February 1951
FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - 0076) 24 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: KIM Chin Nyong (28) (ROKA)
RANK: Pvt
UNIT: 27th Div, 32nd Regt, 1st Bn
PLACE AND DATE OF CAPTURE: WONJU (DS0734) 1200 hrs 22 Jan 51

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW willingly gave information and seemed fairly reliable although limited in details due to his status as former ROK soldier in the 2nd ROK Div, 32nd Regt.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. CIRCUMSTANCE OF CAPTURE:
Deserted from 32nd Regt of 27th Div 20 Jan 51 located in vic of CHILBONG-NI (DS0244). PW came down toward WONJU on 22 Jan 51 while walking on road surrendered to US Patrol.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
PW captured by 1st Bn, 32nd Regt of 27th NK Div in vic of HWACHON 21 Dec 50. Believes the whole 27th Div came south to the vic of CHILBONG-NI 16 Jan 51.
PW states that this 1st Bn never encountered enemy. Did not know disposition of the whole Div because he and 30 former ROK soldiers were guarded. Yet were given a rifle and approx 20 rds of ammo each. They were being trained to fight along with them. PW observed approx 1000 in the 32nd Regt; 2x81mm mortars.
Just before PW made his escape, heard two NK guards speaking in Chinese to keep PW’s from listening (PW understands a little Chinese) that order was issued to the Unit to withdraw north to the vic of HOENGSONG and that the CCF Units were going to replace them. PW heard some of the 27th Div troops fought in MANCHURIA.

5. GENERAL INFORMATION:
Approx 50% wearing winter uniform others in civilian clothing. Saw many wearing old GI overcoats taken from ROK troops.
Most suffering from cold weather although the morale of the troops seemed high. Probably because of the rumor going around among them that TAEGU was taken and that the NKA has already made an amphibious landing in Pusan area.
