FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - 0071) 19 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 1330 hrs 19 Jan 51 at MUNMANG-NI (CS9529)

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was evasive, but information seems fairly reliable.
Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
19 Jan 51 PW was picked up at MUNMANG-NI (CS9529) by 2nd Co, French Bn when he was on the way to CHUNGJU area to observe enemy (UN troops) movements in CHUNGJU area.
PW joined the Political Section of 68th Regt as a spy at HWANCHAE-DO, PYONGSANG-GUN, NAMCHON, (approx 12 miles S of SINMAK) on 16 Dec 50.
20 Dec 50, 68th Regt consisting of 800 men departed NAMCH’ON on foot and arrived WONJU morning of 14 Jan 51, but they withdrew to HWANGSONG-GUN, SUN-MYON, OKKE-RI (CS9929) 15 Jan 51.
PW does not have any knowledge of this unit’s mission but they were waiting for further orders and believes that they are in the same area.
Troops of the 68th Regt were quartered in the 3 villages of OKKE-RI when he left 17 Jan 51. Regt Hqs was located in one of the villages which has approx 20 houses surrounded by pine trees.
On 17 Jan 51, PW, YOM and CHO (full name unk) received orders to observe UN Troop movements in CHUNGJU area and to report back within 5 days to OKKE-RI by Political Section Chief of 68th Regt, LEE Il Song (rank unk).
68th Regt consisted of 1st, 2nd, 3rd Bn, attached Political Sec (13 men), attached Political Security Unit (approx 15 men) and attached Communication Unit (approx 15 men). Strength of Bn unk.
There are about 6 spies like PW in the Political Section.
Observed 3-4 field phones in the attached Communication Unit.
Weapons in the 68th Regt: (2) 50mm mortars (ammo unk), (3-4) LMGs (ammo unk) and every man was armed with rifles.
Supply: No ammo supply after arriving SK. Food was picked up at near-by villages.
Clothing: Every man was issued winter clothing.
Physical Condition: Every man was suffering from cold weather, but none had frostbites.

NAME: CHO (fnu) NATIONALITY: N Korean AGE: 32 WEIGHT: 130 HEIGHT: 5’5” FACE: Oval HAIR: Black, parted on the right EYEBROWS: Black and straight EYES: Thin CHEEKS: Protruded NECK: Small SHOULDERS: Average CHEST: Average WAIST: Small LEGS: Short FEET: Small VOICE: Average
CLOTHING: Black coat (Western style), woolen khaki color trousers and black Korean style rubber shoes.
