PW and one other NK soldier with 4 captured ROK soldiers were surrounded by UN troops while carrying supply to Company. PW was told by ROK soldiers that US GI’s will not harm them if they raised their hands so they threw away arms and surrendered.
The 27th Div (3000) reorganized in vic of ICHO■I and o/a 31 Dec 50 crossed 38 parallel in vic of YANGGU with the 32nd, 14th and 7th Regt. After coming out of Mts, they traveled along main road towards HONGCHON. 0500 4 Jan 51, 4 KMs NE of HONGCHON 32nd and 14th Regt separated from 7th Regt. 7th Regt arrived and stayed in NUNGGOL (DS085494) till 2000 hrs 6 Jan 51. Then from RYO HANG NI (DS100485) 0100 hrs 7 Jan 51 started their attack toward WONJU 7th Regt strength 1000 men.
During their march PW heard from Div supply personnel that 27th Div CP was in HOENGSONG■ 7th Regt launched attack into WONJU o/a 0400 hrs.
PW does not know that the next objective but was told by Plat Ldr that the 1st Bn will pull back out of WONJU after securing it and wait for further orders from higher hq.
Physical condition of troops good. 8 men out of 190 in Bn died of sickness. 20 men have frostbitten feet but able to walk. Food sufficient.
Clothing: 20% of 1st Bn do not have winter uniform. At ICHON 6 men were issued materials and were told to make their own winter uniform.
Weapons of 1st Bn: 1 x 60mm mortar w/16 rds, 2 HMGs w/1200 rds/gun, 1 to 2 LMGs per Co w/800 rds/gun, 1 x 82mm mortar w/32 rds.
