PW was very cooperative in answering all questions asked and information obtained from him seems fairly reliable.
Not recommended for further interrogation.
a. Chronology:
PW became ill at a village 8 Kms N of TO DONG-NI (DS4530) and was separated from his unit 11 Jan 51. PW recovered from his sickness and while enroute to join his unit, he was captured.
10th Div at HWA CHON was issued initial supplies and ammo and departed HWA CHON o/a 20 Dec 50 with the objective of reaching ANDONG-TAEGU to start an extensive Guerrilla warfare behind UN Forces. Strength of Div was estimated at about 7000-8000 men.
11 Jan 51 the whole 10th Div arrived in a village 8 Kms N of TO DONG-NI DS 4530. PW was separated from unit this date and left behind.
PW heard from civilian later that 10th Div arrived and left TO DONG-NI and was headed south to ANDONG via SUSAN-NI. PW tried to catch up with his unit and walked to YULCHI-RI but failed. He stayed here three days and was later captured at POK PYONG-NI still intending to join his organization.
b. Unit Organization:
10th Div is composed of the 25th, 27th, 29th Inf Regt and an artillery regt. They also have an engineer, signal and medical Bn attached to Div.
c. Weapons:
Troops are all armed with rifles, PPSH, SMGs and Automatic rifles. Each man has 80 rds for rifles and 200 rds for PPSH SMGs. Artillery Regt has 10 x 82mm mortars. Div has 50 HMGs and 100 LMGs.
d. Communication: Signal Bn has 10 Field phones and 6,000 ■ of wire.
e. Clothing: All issued winter uniform at HWACHON.
f. Food and Supply: Insufficient. Ordered by CO to conserve.
