PW was very cooperative and information seems fairly reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.
a. Chronology: PW and 120 others captured in vic POHANG DONG by NKA 9 Aug 50. Taken to CHORWON and forced to join 27th Div.
The 14th, 32nd and 7th Regt assembled at YANGGU 1 Jan 51 and prepared to cross 38th parallel 2 Jan 51. 7th and 1st Regt crossed at INJE and later separated. 1st Regt heading E 12 KMs NE of HONGCH’ON, taking main road down to WONJU from HONGCH’ON 0230 hrs 7 Jan 51 approx 8 KMs from WONJU. PW saw elements of the 6th Div marching in same direction. 0400 hrs 7 Jan 51 1st Bn of 7th Regt attacked WONJU to capture and occupy. By daybreak at this time the Regt CP was at HOENGSONG. If the attack was successful and they were able to occupy WONJU, it was ordered for them to withdraw from WONJU to avoid air attack and wait for further orders.
b. Clothing: All but 20% wore winter clothing uniform issued at WONGGU.
c. Weapons: 10% were not armed—they either carried mortars or litters. 1st Bn Weapons: 1 x 82mm mortar w/30rds, 3 x 60mm mortars w/20 rds per gun, 3 HMGs w/800 rds per gun, 3 LMGs w/1200 rds per gun, 2 PPSH SMGs per sqd and rifles w/80rds per rifle.
d. Physical Condition: Fatigue from long march, majority with colds and 20% feet frozen but able to walk.
e. Food: Sufficient.
Objective of 27th Div was WONJU. Also that the 4th, 5th and 9th Div are supposed to come down to WONJU by 9 Jan 51--this info from PW’s Plat Ldr.

6th Div crossed 38th parallel 1 Jan 51 at a point 3 miles W of YANGGU. At that time 15th Regt strength approx 1500 man and 2nd Bn approx 400 men. Regt passed thru HONGCHON on 6 Jan 51 and arrived at outskirt of WONJU 0500 7 Jan 51 taking main road.
PW heard from Plat Ldr (Jr Lt CHA So Lyong) while approx 15 miles N of HONGCHON on 3rd Jan 51, that the 1st and 13th Regt were behind them. PW believes 6th Div Hqs located N of WONJU (location u/k). 6 Jan 51 Co CO told them mission of 15th Regt to attack and seize WONJU.
Weapons of 2nd Bn: 4 x 82mm mortars. All armed with rifles with approx 80 rds/man.
80% of his unit has winter uniform, other 20% still wearing summer uniform. One or two frostbite cases everyday.
They had Med Plat attached to Bn but not enough Med supplies.
