FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - 0066) 16 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: KWON Tae Sik
RANK: Pvt
UNIT: 10th Div, 25th Regt, 2nd Bn, 4th Co, 1st Plat
DATE AND PLACE OF CAPTURE: 1000 hrs 15 Jan DR 1787

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative in giving information, however due to his lack of education, his short military service and poor knowledge of terrain could not give detail info. Info fairly reliable.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL:
a. Chronology:
PW and 480 replacements joined the 25th Regt on 27 Dec 50 at YANGGU being issued rifles with only 20 rds of ammo each. 25th Regt had only about 500 men before they joined this unit.
2nd Bn had an SMG Plat (30 men) all armed with PPSH SMGs. Saw 1 HMG.
2nd Div (3500) left same day PW joined unit. O/a 3 Jan 51 just north of YONGWOL (DS 5345), 27th Regt (1000 men) headed in south southwest (destination unk). 29th Regt (1000) headed southeast (destination unk). 25th Regt headed south. 2 hrs after separation 5 Jan 51, this Regt contacted UN Forces in vic YONGWOL. Breaking away this unit headed NW toward WONJU for short distance suddenly changing to the south passing approx 12 Kms from CHECH’ON o/a 10 Jan 51. 11 Jan 51 they passed through SUSAN MYON vic DS2887 generally following along river. 12 Jan 51 unit was passing through TOKSAN MYON vic DS2681 SOLLIM-NI village 2000 hrs when PW dropped out and stayed behind alone in this village. 14 Jan 51 PW walked approx 12 Kms in NW direction toward CHUNGJU when he was captured at PONGNO-RI (DS1787). Does not know destination or objective of 25th Regt.

b. Clothing:
None of the 480 replacements received winter uniform. They were in civilian clothing although the others wore uniforms.

c. Communication:
Did not see any wireless equipment although there was telephone communication between Bns and Regt Hqs.

d. Health:
They invariably stayed in shelter to rest. 20% of men effected by cold weather. In extreme cases oxens were used to haul casualties. Most forced to walk with unit.
