FIELD REPORT (25 Div - LDI - No Number) 16 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DATA:
NAME: JYO, Tsu-tsung
AGE: 28
RANK: Pvt
DUTY: Ammo bearer
UNIT: 50th Army, 128th Div (?), 442nd Regt, 3rd Bn, 3rd Co, 1st Plat, PW states he is certain of regimental designation of 128th Div. The PW formerly belonged to 60th CNA, 41st Div (?). 60th CNA became 50th CCF Army about 21/2 years ago.
EDUCATION: Completed 3 yrs primary school
PLACE OF CAPTURE: HA■UNG NI (CS282081)
DATE OF CAPTURE: 15 Jan 1951
CAPTURING UNIT: 8th FA Bn, 27th RCT, 25th Inf Div

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW suffering from severe case of frozen feet. Otherwise he appears to be in good physical condition. PW is cooperative, but of low intellect. He has poor memory. Not recommended for further interrogation. Pw being evacuated through medical channels. States he is surprised at good treatment he is receiving.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology
128th Div entered KOREA about 2 months ago. Div crossed 38th parallel o/a 1 Jan 51. Div passed through SEOUL and immediately crossed HAN River o/a 6 Jan 51. PW’s company marched about 3 nights after crossing HAN River to unknown location. Separated from his company o/a 11 Jan 51 together with PW HWANG, Jyo-kwang. O/a 12 Jan 51 they dug fox holes and hid. States they were discovered by Korean villagers who reported to U.S. troops. This afternoon he heard small arms fire and then surrendered to American troops.

b. Equipment
Estimates one half of company armed. Those armed carry about 100 rds ammo. Unarmed personnel carry about 250 rds. There are 6 HMGs in 3rd company. No LMGs. 3rd Co has 4 mortars, cal unk. The company has about 14 horses used to carry ammunition.

c. Unit Mission
Originally troops told that mission of division was to defend Manchurian border. Troops are told by officers that they are in KOREA to help NKA. Does not know immediate mission of division.

d. Disposition of Units
Does not know disposition of divisional units. PW states 50th Army composed of 127th, 128th and 129th divisions. Does not know locations of these divisions. States that there are other CCF units in KOREA, but unit designations and locations unknown. Does not know of location of any NKA units.

e. Communications
Communications accomplished by various means depending on circumstances. Means of communications are runners, horse mounted messengers and telephone. He has seen no radios.

f. Morale
PW states morale is low. States majority of lower ranks want to return to their homes. However the officers are ardent campaigners and always tell the troops of the necessity of fighting.

g. Food
There are no army issue of food-stuffs. Troops live off the land. To date food has been in sufficient quantity.

h. Ammo and supplies
There have been no issue of clothing and ammo. Heard that ammo supplies will soon come from China.

i. Medical facilities
Heard that casualties are evacuated to rear. Does not know extent of medical facilities.
