| CIRCUMSTANCE OF RECOVERY: | Arrested by civilians of NOJWA DONG (DR 5571) 19 Jan and handed over to 2nd Bn 187th RCT. Source states he was captured approx 20km S of CHECHON 14 Jan 51 by 10th NK Div. He escaped from his captors 190900 in the mountains 2 km E of NOJWADONG. |

The 10th Div moved S after capturing source, crossed the HAN River vic TANGANG MYON 16 Jan 51, and arrived in the mountains 2km E of NOJWADONG. Div continued S the same night with TAEGU as their destination according to the talk of members of the Div. Source and three wounded NK troops with five guards remained behind to follow later. 18 Jan 51 other NKs from the 2nd Div arrived with one prisoner. These 23 NK troops and the other PW were still in the area when source managed to escape.
Only small arms and automatic weapons were observed in the Div.
16 Jan at 0100 hrs, Div., while marching, was hit by UN Arty (about 10 rds). No casualties.
On foot at night over trails through the mountains. Unit rested during the day in village homes. Food was locally procured. No re-supply of ammo was observed. Telephones were seen in Div.
Source overheard 15 men of 2nd Div state that they were advance elements and that 2nd Div was following.
