FIELD REPORT (521-MISD-0366) 17 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative; information reliable.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
6 Aug 50 - Inducted at KANGWON-DO, YANGUGUN, NAMMYON CHONGNI.
22 Nov 50 - Assigned to the 10th Div at KANGWON-DO, HOYANG GUN, NAE KUMKAN MYON, SIMPUN NI.
17 Jan 51 - The Arty Regt arrived CHIDONG 161000 but had departed while source and his two companions slept.

3. UNIT MOVEMENT:
25 Dec 50 - The 10th Div departed KANGWON-DO moving south crossing the HAN River at PUNKOL (DR3080) 5 miles W of SUSANMYON, on 11 Jan 51.
14 Jan 51 - The 10th Div arrived at TOKCHON NI (DR4598) after a 10 mile march northward. Prior movement after crossing the river had been south-east. Here the Div encountered a UN convoy travelling east and a skirmish ensued in which the 4th Co, 2nd Bn, Arty Regt suffered 3 KIA and 2 WIA.
Order of march was 29th Regt, 27th Regt, Div HQ, Arty Regt, 25th Regt. Travel was by foot at night with an interval of one kilometer between regiments. Interval during the day when they rested depended on terrain and distance between villages.

Remainder of personnel armed with Mossin Nagan M-1924/27 carbines and Mossin Nagant M-1891 rifles with about 50 rds each. There was a total of ■D American carbines M-1 with about 70 rds each.

6. SUPPLY:
Food requisitioned from villagers without payment. No resupply of Ammo since moving south. 100 rds were issued to each member of the Arty Regt when they began their southward advance. After the TOKCHON NI encounter all in excess of 50 rds was taken up and reportedly distributed to the Inf.

7. COMMUNICATION:
Telephone communication between regiments and battalions during daytime rest periods. Radio communication at regiment and division Hqs.
