PW was very cooperative during interrogation and information obtained seems reliable, however, due to his illness and being an ammo bearer he had no information of immediate tactical value.
a. PW was conscripted 30 Sep 50 at HONHYA-DO into 97th Regt (Code No. 587). O/a 6 Nov 50, PW was reassigned to the 12th Div which was formerly the 7th Div at HWACHANG-MYON (BA6821). The entire division left HWACHANG-MYON (BA6821) for south on or about 17 Nov 50. While travelling to HONGCH’ON from HWACHANG, the division passed through the following places: MAENGSAN (BU8692), YANGDOK (BU9743), KOK SAN (BT9795), POKKYE-RI (CT4855), KUMHWA (CT6538), HWACH’ON (CT8708), NAEPYONG-NI (DS0499), HANGYE (DS1183), and arrived HONGCH’ON (DS0272) on or about 27 Dec 50. 262000 Dec 50, at a point 12 Km NE of HONG CHON PW was separated from his unit due to illness and stayed at a farm house for 3 days. 31 Dec 50, PW left the farm house for his home with the intention of not returning to his unit. 010800 Jan 51, PW was captured 20 Km SW of HONGCH’ON.
b. The 12th Div was composed of 3 infantry regiments of 3 battalions each. Each infantry battalion was composed of 3 Rifle Cos, one HMG Co, one 82mm Mortar Co, and one Sig Plat. Each Rifle Co (156 men) were composed of 3 Rifle Plats (48 men/per) and one HMG Plat. There were 12 LMGs with 5,000 rounds each and one HMG with 2,000 rounds. 82mm Mortar Co (72 men) was composed of 3 Mortar Platoons (25 men each). Company had ■ x 82mm mortars, ammo supply was unknown.
c. PW stated that the objective of the 12th Div was to proceed to KANGNUNG, however, this was changed to HONGCH’ON on or about 25 Nov 50. The mission of the 12th Div is to attack the enemy from the rear and also cut off their MSR. For this ■…■ the 12th Div is known in the NKA as a guerrilla unit.
