2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative and was fairly intelligent. Since he had a diary of his everyday activities, dates and names of places are believed to be correct. Information obtained fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
27 Oct 50 – Inducted into the 10th Div, Signal Bn, 1st Co at WONSAN (元山) and received no basic training, but while attending the WONSAN NORMAL SCHOOL had close order drill 1 hour per week. On the day PW was inducted, his unit went on foot to HWACH’ON (華川).
20 Dec 50 – Arrived at HWACH’ON. Rested for 5 days and received weapons at HWACH’ON.
26 Dec 50 – Departed HWACH’ON.
27 Dec 50 – After crossing two hills, arrived at a village about 25 km SE of KANGDONG MYON (강동면), and because of strafing and bombing by airplanes, the other company lost a radio transceiver 4R (RBS-40) also usable as wire telephone, as well as other equipment.
31 Dec 50 – Arrived at HONGCH’ON (洪川) and departed that night.
3 Jan 51 – Arrived at HOENGSONG GUN, CHONG IL MYON, YUDONG RI (橫城郡 검일면 유동리).
5 Jan 51 – Arrived at YONGWOLGUN, SURYU MYON, UNG HAN RI (寧越郡 수이 운한리).
6 Jan 51 – At YONGWOL PW’s 10th Division engaged ROK unit and captured one ROKA PW, about 300 rounds of M1 ammo, 1 LMG, and 10 blankets.
9 Jan 51 – Arrived at TANYANG GUN (丹陽郡), SANG CHUN MYON, YING GOKRI (심한면 운욱리), and on that same night moved to TANYANG GUN, CHOCK SUK MYONG, TEKARI (丹陽郡 척적면 대기리). Departed for parts unknown and on the way since PW’s feet were cold, he lagged behind and became separated from his unit. PW’s unit was travelling by way of mountain paths. When PW lost sight of his unit, he and another soldier came down from the mountain and departed for CHECH’ON (堤川).
11 Jan 51 – At CHECH’ON, PW stayed for the night.
15 Jan 51 – PW was captured at YULCHI RI (栗技里) by the 35th ROK Regiment.

Unit Duties: (Signal battalion)
Duties of the 1st company, signal battalion were to lay telephone lines and to hand carry messages. PW was a lineman.

4. GENERAL:
PW was not told the mission of the 10th Division but PW believes they were to go to ANDONG (安東). This was the rumor.
Psychological Warfare:
PW did not surrender voluntarily and he did not see or hear anything about UN leaflets or broadcasts.
