a. Chronology:
12 Aug 50: Inducted into the NKA, at SINUIJU. Received arty basic training.
25 Aug 50: All of the units in SINUIJU departed for KYONGSANG PUKTO, ANDONG (慶尙北道 安東) by train and detrained at KAESONG (開城).
1 Oct 50: Arrived UISONG (義城) on foot. PW was transferred with about 2,000 recruits to the 15th Div.
2 Oct 50: Unit withdrew from UISONG (義城) because of a UN attack.
5 Nov 50: PW arrived CHONCH’ON (前川) approx 40km S of KANGGYE (江界) with two other NKA soldiers. Assigned to 2nd Regt, 31st Div.
20 Nov 50: The regrouped 31st Div, an estimated 1500 men, left. CHONGCH’ON (前川) for S KOREA.
18 Dec 50: 31st Div received approx 2000 reinforcements at KUMHWA (金化).
25 Dec 50: Arrived NAEP’YONG-NI (內坪里) 16km N of CHUNCH’ON (春川) via POKGYE (福溪), P’YONGANG (平康) and HWACH’ON (樺川).
26 Dec 50: Attacked the ROK Army on Hill #708, 8 km S of NAEP’YONG-NI (內坪里).
27 Dec 50: PW’s company was surrounded by ROK Army. PW was the only man captured.

c. Unit History:
31st Div was originally organized in SEOUL after 25 Jun 50 and consisted of South Korean volunteers and conscripts. After retreating to CHONCH’ON, the 31st Div. reorganized, and started to SOUTH KOREA again on 20 Nov 50.
At KUMHWA (金化) on 18 Dec 50, 31st Div received approx 2000 reinforcements. It now consists of 3 Inf Regts (1st, 2nd and 3rd).

e. Disposition:
When last observed, 26 Dec 50, 31st Div was 16km N of the CHUNCH’ON (春川) perimeter, with 1st, 2nd and 3rd Regts in line.
2nd Div was moving toward CHUNCH’ON (春川) in front of 31st Div.
f. Intentions:
31st Div was to infiltrate the UN Forces defense line and conduct guerrilla vehicle in the rear.
g. Morale:
All of those who joined the 31st Div in SEOUL have not experienced combat, so they were afraid to fight and their morale was very low.
h. Replacements:
No replacements were received since the reinforcements, 18 Dec 50 at KUMHWA (金化).
i. Evacuation and Treatment of Wounded:
Regt and stations were located in a village behind the lines. 31st Div hasn’t any transportation to evacuate the wounded. No medicine was observed even in Div HQ.
j. Supply:
More than half of the 31st Div were armed with American rifles. Each man carried 3 days rations and 100 rounds. 100 rounds for machine guns.
No ammo for mortars.
31st Div has no arty.
