Civilians were forced out of their homes in order to set up the hospital at villages.
Hospital with a capacity of 400 patients was always prepared, however approx only one tenth of this number were ever handled by Regt hospital.
Patients had already been treated at the Bn hospital which was always located approx 2 km from the Regt hospital. Wounded were brought in by stretcher.
Only minor operations were conducted at the Regt hospital and major operations were sent to Div Hosp which was located approx 6 to 8 km rear of Regt Hosp. Approx 50 percent of the wounded recovered and were sent back to their unit, approx 30 percent died, and 20 percent were sent to Div Hosp for further care. Medical supplies were very inadequate because supplies were not provided from the rear, therefore, medical supplies and instruments were confiscated from civilian hospitals. Most needed medicines were sulfamilamid and sulfadiazine. Medical instruments were sufficient and were sterilized in aerosol. Bandages were washed and reused, also white cloth was used.
